Jeff and I have spoken through PM about working out for a few months here and there. I was a college athlete, pretty good shape and then life hit me. I had a hard time figuring out (even though I know how to workout etc...) how to get in shape without structure of school, workout and a coach busting my tail everyday. I finally got fed up and just did it. I have completed slim in 6 twice (prequel to P90X) and run a few miles before work and do HITT in the evenings. I actually lost over 50 lbs but got a little skinny for my liking. 6' 2" and 197 did not look good with the weight I lost. I put about 30 back on with the intent to loose it slower and work out as well. I am now at 220, and feel better about my shape so to speak. I plan to loose 10 more in the next month and finally do the P90 I bought over a year ago. I think i will be happy at the end. I re learned the simple fact maintaining is the key now, because I will be 31 tomorrow, and I know a day will come when I can't keep up my current pace.
I really liked one of Will's (Iamyourhuckleberry) posts. However, I cannot find it. He talked about community, and relying on one another when it comes to splitting medical costs, and for other things such as loans. If we had strong local communities and people relied upon their neighbor to help them in their times of need, we would be much better off than allowing the government in on every little aspect of our lives. I swear the American people WANT the government to tell them what to do. It makes people feel better when they believe they have a safety net via the federal government. Bring back states rights and help foster strong community bonds, so that we may take care of one another....at that point we can tell the insurance companies to F-off, our overall medical costs will drop, and we will be happier people because we will have a much clearer sense of how our money is being spent. BTW, the above post is not a Democrat thing or a Republican thing.......not a conservative thing, not a liberal thing. I am SO tired of those damn labels. Using those crap labels get us nowhere mentally as a country. How do I know? I used those labels for years myself, and warped my brain. Wake up, solve the problems that exist in our country, and support your fellow American with honesty and integrity in your every action.
I've been working out consistently for 7yrs, but I still need to eat a little healthier. My biggest concern is with my back. I have a bulging disc in my lower back, so I'm going to have to milk that, and hopefully take care of it so I don't (God forbid) need a back surgery some day. Going to be purchasing a bike sometime in the future as well.
V.A. hospitals are not good places...I know 1st hand and pretty soon we will all know because that is where this is all going. Just watch and see. Sorry to ruin your day, but I don't sugar coat things.
There is a way to help, if not get completely out of the debt we are in. There are SEVERAL perofessions in the (un)United states that earn way too much money. And for what? entertainment for the EWA. (Entertainment *****s of America) Take 1/2 the income these get: Film Producers, Movie stars, Musical acts/artists, Professional sports players/stars, Gov't officials (AKA placeholders) etc, etc, ad nauseum for about 20 years (or forever as for as I am concerned) and we would all be well on our way to debt-free as a nation. This nation has been so freakin worried about "entertain us" and "coddle us" for so long, we have forgotten that "we" are paying for it. Jmho
I've always said no pro athlete is worth millions a year...same can be said for many of your examples.
Easy way to opt out of that one. Don't go to their games/pay to see their movies/purchase their music. I can't opt out of paying for someone else's helthcare.
Jeff if we opted out of the first ones, which I do, we could afford to pay for healthcare for others. (Not that I agree with paying for some folks, which we already do.) The fact remains, "we" as a nation have "allowed" this to come to pass.
Good to hear from you, Mo.... I don't think you're in need of being "kept". But, I think your cost of living just took (another) hit. Don't be a stranger.
I just re-read some of my posts and man has this heathcare thing made me cranky. I'm just pissed. No other way about it.
