Get in shape. Live a healthy life.

This is the wake-up call we've all been secretly waiting on....or saying we'd not turn a deaf ear to. I've said it to myself....."If my doctor told me I had to get in better physical condition....it would be the wake-up call I couldn't ignore".

We talk about these VA hospitals. And, no one I know (who's been to one) wants to be treated, there. But, sadly....that's where we're headed. Maybe not in 5yrs. But 25?

    I'll be over 70, in 25yrs. I got my wake-up call - Sunday.

So....repent. Opt-out. Make having to resort to actually using your gov't insurance policy a losing bet. Blood pressure medicine.....as a cure? How about we address the cause??? Diabetes? Ditto. The list goes on.

    End of rant.

And there is one more reason for me to get on the treadmill tonight. Thanks Jeff! I've lost 7 pounds in the past 2 weeks. And staying healthy is a good way to not need Obamacare.

I started working out this morning. Been wanting to do it a long time, but finally forced myself to do it today.

    YES!

It sickens me how most American's live.

I fully support the soda tax. I think all buffet style and fast food restaurants should be taxed to death as well.

Hooker, as bad as fast food is.... It is NOT the role of government to decide something should be taxed because it is bad for you. That is terrible public policy.

totally this... educate people about making the right choice, but allow them to make the decision for themselves... their actions have consequences and they will be held to account by having ill health, dying young etc... but restricting someones ability to decide for themselves diminishes our freedoms by orders of magnitude...

    I completely agree.

But if they are wanting to tax something, tax fast food.

actually they DO tax soda... just like they tax most other things... its called sales tax ;)

cigarettes/alcohol are taxed cuz they are so-called 'sins', there's a reason they call 'em sin taxes ya know... which personally i'm against even though I don't smoke...

The argument here in Wisconsin (not sure about other places) is we need to tax alcohol so they can give me information so I don't start abusing it. Okay fine, if your okay with that I can accept that.

    But then maybe we should.........
    • Tax Archery (more) so they can pay for education on how not to destroy your shoulder or shoot someone.
    • Tax my car (more) to pay for some crash prevention education that nobody is going to listen to.
    • Tax my computer (more) to prevent me from watching kiddy porn
    • Tax my coffee (more) because it stains my teeth
    • Tax my treestand (more) to prevent me from falling out of it
    • Tax fattening foods (more) so I stop buying it
    • etc, etc etc
My point is that artificially making something more expensive because it is viewed by our government as "bad for you" or that you may use that product inappropriately, is not something I am okay with.

You realize how this is a slippery slope right? No one takes accountability for their own actions anymore.

Edit: This isn't directed towards SeverMag. Just people in general.

    Germ,

I believe that we need to stop spending so much money as opposed to creating more taxes on anything (whether they are bad for you or not).

Another tax is just another band-aid. You need to cut spending to really fix this "mess".

I agree, but that is not going to happen. I'm sorry.

They are going to raise taxes somewhere, somehow, and it is my belief that when they do, it should be on fast food items.

In a perfect world....I totally agree with you. But the dems just changed the game.

In a perfect world, people are responsible for their own actions. In a perfect world, people are FINANCIALLY responsible if they choose lifestyles that are unhealthy.

But...the dems just changed the game. Now...I AM MY BROTHER'S KEEPER......and I've got more at stake in his health than he does. If he abused his health and simply died because of it........so be it. When his actions affect MY livelihood, though.........legislate away. You can't fix stupid. But, you can make being stupid more expensive. As long as the taxes go into the healthcare fund......tax away.

    BTW, Hooker.....

Every time I'm on the treadmill (I just did 4mi. in 35min) I think about your runs.....lol. How long does that run take you?????

I now see why the democrats were so desperate for this legislation. This bill is taking level headed, common sense thinkers, and making them concede to their (the democrats) way of seeing things by conceding that we can tax “bad things” to pay for this terrible bill. I don't blame you Jeff, as this truly is a sad state of affairs. I understand your reasoning. But arguing for any type of additional taxes at this point is analogous to arguing for the decimation of this country, IMO.

I believe we need to stand true to our beliefs and state and defend our unaltered opinions without regard to universal health care, entitlement mentality or even a socialist society.
