I received this updated picture from the builder. They cut down most of the trees and brush where the cabin will be located. This will be our view. The gravel driveway will be coming in right where the ATV is parked. Behind the ATV is where I had the camper parked on page 1 of this thread.
I went up the land with two of my buds to get some work done on the land this weekend. This was our simple camp set-up. I finally got the Mule up there. I can't tell you enough how handy that machine is. The first thing we did was clear all the trails of deadfall and the overgrown spots to improve the trail system. The previous owner didn't maintain the trails very well. The next thing we did is create a few new trails to make getting to a couple spots on the property easier. This will make stand entry easier and quieter. Next, we started assembling, cutting and splitting firewood. The splitting was done by hand for now. It was good exercise though. The Mule did quite a few trips looking like this. We ended up with about 2 piles of wood each about this size. Next I set-up a trailcam over a Monster Raxx mineral site. Hopefully we will get some good pics and I really will find out how many deer are using this property. I am exhausted but we had a great time and got some good work done.
Some excellent pics! Congrats on the great land purchase. Looks like you won't have much time to get bored lol. Hope everything goes smoothly for you getting settled in there. And of course... HAPPY HUNTING :D
I've been doing the same thing every weekend for over a year! I have to come home and go to work in order to reccuperate for next weekend. You are right though, it is fun. I've never had a bad weekend up there. It looks like it was a great time and you got a bunch of firewood ready to go. I've probably cut, split and stacked 3 full cords of wood so far this year. My GF burns it like it's her last fire! We started out like you..... first the Rhino, then the Rhino and a trailer, now I just bring the trees to my firewood area with the tractor and grapple and cut, split and stack all in one spot. It is good exercise. Good luck and have fun on the rest of your projects.
So I set up a Monster Raxx mineral site and a trailcam over it back in mid-April and was up there and able to retrieve my first trail-cam pictures off of my land this weekend. The land has received a TON of rain over the last week or two and combined with the heavy clay soils turned the land pretty wet with standing water in many places. However, from April 14 to May 5 I received 129 pictures of deer with most being during daylight. Surprisingly 0 coyotees. I'm very happy with the initial results of the heard on my land. There appears to be two separate groups of does and fawns visiting this site. It's hard to tell yet but one buck came in and he appears to be at least 2.5 year old to me based on his body. His headgear is just starting to grow as shown below. Now that I am done with turkey hunting I put an additional trail cam up there now over a transition point without any minerals and also made a different mineral site with a camera over it. I met with a guy that provides food plot planning implementation services. The food plot locations are now pinned down and they should be cleared sometime in June with planting occuring in August. As you can see the Monster Raxx brought them in. Here are some of the better pictures of the 129 I got. Here is the Buck starting to grow headgear. Can't wait to find out how big he will get.
Nice How long before you make it back there? I think I'm going to check my MR site today since it's raining.
Brad, I just found this thread this morning. I'm going to have to subscribe as I am researching doing a similiar land purchase in the next 3-5 years. Can't wait to see your updates after the Memorial Day holiday. Good luck! Mike
