Despite all the urges to get down I stuck it out and boy did it pay off. I had made up my mind that I would sit in my muddy stand on the hill. However, I passed my 2man stand and saw a lot of new tracks. A few weeks earlier I had an amazing encounter behind this stand while walking out. Ive hab this stand up for about 5 years now and have only seen small buckss or doe. I decided if I want a shot thiat big buck from earlier I had better sit here. Well the morning light came and I could hear shotguns going off all around me. Followed by people's voices and 4 wheelers driving across the field to retrieve their down deer. I continued to sit and at 11 I made out movement infront of me about100 yards. I grabbed my binos and discovered it was a buck. Unfortunately, he wasn't the caliber I would take. I was a little excited to have finally see a deer from a stand this year. Then at 11.55 I was standing in my stand watching behind me but I decided to turn around and bam. Theres a couple ofdeer coming straigh at me from the path leading to the field. I see the doe and it looked like a buck following. I start to grab my shotgun incase hes a good buck. You see I will only shota big buck with my shotgun. All of a sudden his full figure becomes visible and I instantly know this is without a doubt a shooter. He stopped quartering towards me I waited and he turns broardside at 25yards. At this time im fully aware this will be the biggest buck I will take, if I pull it off. I also know this isn't the same buck from my encounter weeks ago. I put my cross hairs behind the shoulder and pull the trigger. Boom hes hit but he takes off running. I tell myself, im not letting this buck out of my sight. I shoot while hes running and take his front leg out and he crashes 10 yards from my stand. If I had a zip line I would have been on the ground. . It was unfortunate, that he would be broadside 25 yards with a shotgun and not my bow. But the other bigger bu k is still out there hopefully. I will be sitting in thesame stand soon but with my bow in hand
Thanks. Unfortunately, im not getting him mounted. Ill do a European mount because the $450 price tag. Sucks but it is what it is.
