On October 1st of 2012 I started a mock scrape it was the first time I have ever try them and man did they work although I was able to hunt much because of work I was able to get a buck but I got a lot of pictures and seen a lot of nice bucks and I will defiantly be making a mock scrape again this year.

Love it!! Do you have any specifics on the products you used and how often you re-freshened the site?

Yea I used some whitetail research active scrape in a drip bag and some tinks mock scrape spray. I went every 4 to 5 days and freshened it up. I used a garden rake to get to freshen it. I also found some pre orbital gland sent to use on the lickn branch and once they started poundin the scrape I worked it up every time I sat in that stand.

That's good stuff, I had similar results with mocks scrapes but they were hitting em hard at night just a few day pics. Good luck this year

Nice pictures. I will be doing the same thing this year. I've been wanting to experiment with mock scrapes for awhile now, just haven't done it. Good luck this fall getting on those bucks.

I had good luck with mine as well. I started 5 or 6 and they pounded most of them. I started mine w. Tinks Power Scrape and refreshed it when I got a chance too. I generally forgot my Power Scrape so I usually ended up just peeing in them myself. Seemed to work just fine. For some reason, other animals liked to frequent one of my scrapes. I had several pictures of coyotes in the scrape.

Good work, something I have not had a ton of luck with. Hope to try it again this year.

I have seen that code blue has came out with a new scent called lickin branch gel that would b worth trying. once you get the scent of another buck on that scrape that your locale buck doesn't know he will come in more and more trying to find him I noticed this last year when I startd putting preorbital gland sent on the lickin branch

I started mine last year the second week of September with a magnum dripper from wildlife search & buck urine. Certainly increased the number of bucks coming in and hitting the site. I would re-freshen it myself every 3 weeks to a month with buck urine. Then the first of November I switched to doe-in-heat urine. Had even more pics.

I've been making mock scrapes for about 10 years now, and have had some amazing results. As many as 12 different bucks in a 3 day period visited one of them. Hundreds of cam pics and lots of fun. I start them out each fall with Active Scrape, a rake and some pre-orbital gland scent if available. Then I mix it up during the season, refreshing the scent every week to 2 weeks (I do it when I check the camera) and I use whatever scent I have handy (Code Blue, Active Scrape, Dominant Buck, etc.) or if my diet has been pretty onion/garlic/ alcohol free lately, I will just pee in it myself.

Got a question for you guys when do you have the most pics on scrapes? As far as dates last week of October into first couple days of nov and do you hunt over them during this time period or just use for intel.

I actually do very little hunting over my mock scrapes. I really just use those as spots to get a good trail camera census of the bucks on my property. I then send pictures of all the larger bucks to all of my buddies who hunt with me, (hoping that this will lead them to pass on the smaller bucks, knowing that bigger bucks are indeed on the property) We also tend to name the bigger/odder bucks, so we can more easily describe the bucks we see while out hunting.

As far as dates of pictures, I certainly tend to see the most action from about 10/20 thru 11/15 here in N.W. Wisconsin, but I do get both bucks and does visiting these mock scrapes from mid- September thru mid-January normally. Because most of my mock scrapes are on field/food plot edges, about 80% of my pictures are at night. My mock scrapes back in the thicker woods, tend to see more daytime activity.

Correct me if my thinking is wrong. I think I will make some this year, if we get some private property to hunt. My plan would be to put a mock scrape in the woods close to bedding to be hunted in mornings. I wouldn't want to hunt over it, I'd use it as another way to get bucks on their feet during daylight and a could be between bedding and scrape think it would be a good plan. don't think hunting over them in a plot would be a good idea. where do ya'll make your mock scrape and how do you hunt it?

You have a good game plan. I use it to attract deer to a certain location more than anything. When I set mine up, it was located 10 yards off a field edge on a trail between two bedding areas. That helped me channel the deer within bow range. If you plan on utilizing though, stay away from checking cameras or hunting that stand repetitively. Your scent and pressure will work against you. Just let the deer find it and they will begin hitting it themselves. When I set mine up in September, I didnt hunt it till the first week of November.
