This year I had a sweet shot at a spike elk. Me and my brother have been bowhunting for elk for almost 10 years together. 2 years ago we started bringing my nephew along to teach him how to bowhunt. This year was his first year carrying a bow. When the wolves were reintroduced a couple years back in idaho they really wiped out the elk spot where we used to hunt. I even started packing a handgun for those nights in the tent. There has been many nights were we have heard animals checking out our camp site only to find wolve tracks the next morning less then 50 ft from the tent. Anyway we found a new spot a couple years ago. Last year I missed a 35 yd shot due to the arrow deflecting off a tree branch.... But this last year was alot better. I shot this elk at 45 yds. It went less then 10yds and died. I double lunged and heart shot it. My nephew was there beside me and saw the whole thing. He was ear to ear grin. I can't wait for next year.
First off, welcome to the forum bluefork! That`s a great story, thanks for sharing it. also thanks for taking a new hunting! We are having the same wolf issue here (WA), although I don`t think it`s as bad............yet........
Congrats on the elk and welcome to the sight. I have been sending for my first Colorado elk hunt with my dad, I think we have to wait one more year
