Nothing spiffy - this is basic 10/22 stuff.. but it's the first I've ever really messed with triggers and what not.

I started with a stock 10/22 and put a 3-9x illuminated reticle scope on it. (actually K put it on... Merry Christmas to me :) )
Wood stock is swapped out with a hogue overmolded stock. A volquartsen bolt release and target hammer. I went with an extended magazine release, a GI style cotton sling and a tuffer buffer recoil buffer.

Here's the little stuff. Top left: Target hammer and springs, Top right: Tuffer Buffer recoil buffer, Bottom Right: Extended magazine release, Bottom Left: Bolt release.

I purposefully bought an older 10/22 so it would have the metal trigger housing as opposed to the newer poly trigger housings.

The gun all changed out. Sadly, for some reason my barrel and action would not drop in like it should into the hogue stock. Out of curiousity we tried the stock with K's 10/22 and it dropped right in. So... eventually, I'm going to have to get out my foredom tool and grind out the hogue stock to get it to be truly drop in and free floating... for now, it's a semi-floating jammed on stock. LOL. :o
    [IMG]

It shoots nicely. Trigger pull went from about 7lbs to about 2.5lbs.

Closer up of mag. release and bolt release.

In the morning I'm going to run out to the woods for an hour or two and see if I can find some squirrels and see what they think of it.

I would like to do something like this with my old Sears Ranger 30-06. I can't miss with that gun but you put my Browning BLR 358 in my hands
and I just plain suck for some reason with it.

That's really cool, Chris. You lost me, early, though (over my head stuff).

    Congrats.

Very nice! One of my "must get" rifles.

You ever consider doing an Appleseed?

Yes! This will be my dedicated LTR. I went to my first Appleseed back in June 2010 and shot a score 222 and then a 213 with a borrowed 10/22. My scores from Saturday to Sunday were amazingly different. (I sucked on Sat.) They really teach you a lot.

In Sept. I went to the Appleseed Waterman 300. Using a different borrowed gun, the best I could do was 202. I blame wind, gun/ammo problems and a plague of locusts. ;)

Have you gone to any Appleseeds?

There's one in N. IL on the 5th and 6th of Feb.. I signed up for it. The 'Winterseed' patches are pretty cool. So far I think just me and one other person have signed up. I guess the cold and wind is scaring people off. :(

Very cool! I haven't been to one yet. I don't have one that I'd consider taking there. But, I'm planning to build up a decent 10/22 like you have. Nothing too fancy.

Friend of mine has gone to a couple of Appleseeds and really enjoyed them. No outdoor shooting for me. I'll do it for hunting, etc. But, target shooting? Nah.

BTW, as I heard it, they don't allow scopes for Appleseed. Was it the same for you?

They allow scopes. Eventually, I'll try it with tech sights... but my eyes are not so good anymore. :)

That's my big butt in the camo. They let me put my elbows down for the sitting shooting position. In this photo, I'm clearing out yet another jam. Grrr... :(
The gun/ammo issue has since been resolved.... but it's also why I got my own gun. ;)

oh... and I'm a lefty... so I catch a lot of brass with my face. :D

Did you have to modify the hammer to clear your safety? I did, and it was titanium so it was rough. I couldn't believe how difficult it was to take off a few mil.

looks great! been contemplating getting one, dad gave me the one i grew up with but just cant bring myself to take it from him. it just feels right leaving it at he and my moms house. i really struggle with putting glass on any of my rifles... have a few (at parents house) with "over under" mounts but in low light the iron sites might as well not be there. solution? buy two of every rifle... oops!

ps now that you are getting married im not allowed to comment on the last pic =-( other than K is a lucky man!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! there that was done with respect and tastefullness.

BC, no I didn't have any problem with it. I've heard that happens sometimes. I hear it a lot when people replace the sear. There was 10/22 at the range that had an 'overmodified' sear and would go full auto every now and then.

Isaiah... you so have to come to an Appleseed. There's one on the 5th-6th... and it's not like you're going to be in TX that weekend. :poke: :poke:
(you can kick my butt for that comment... but I couldn't resist)

Seriously tho'. Look at the schedule and see if you can make it to one. I'll loan you my gun even. You'd have a lot of fun.

The squirrels were difficult this morning. Running and running and staying far away. One came out and barked at me from about 30 yards away. Bad mistake.

Then a helicopter came and flew around and around right overhead. Maybe doing a deer count... but it didn't help the squirrel hunting at all.

Good stuff! I just got a new one for my kids to use.

I had one - bought it with my own money when I was 14. Way back when I was just in the Marine Corps, I moved to Oki for 3 years. Left my weapons with my dad...came back three years later a Glock 19 and my 10/22 short. "oh, I thought we traded for those".

He let it rust and throws it away! I almost cried, was in Iraq when he told me. Dad, they have aluminum receivers and I could have rebarreled it.

    "Oh...didn't know that...sorry".

Glad your having fun with it, they are a great weapon! I am resisting the urge to upgrade mine since I am about 5 AK kits from being done with current projects...

    This was my latest build.

FM, nice gun! Bummer about the lost 10/22. It won't make you feel any better but while a buddy of mine was overseas (Desert Storm), his wife filed for divorce, sold/threw away all of his stuff.... even got rid of his dog. His dog!... That's cold!

Isaiah, I'll keep pestering you until you make it to a shoot. :) Oh, and I did skin the squirrel but haven't cooked it yet. I'm hoping to get another one or two first.

    John.... legally?? ;) :D

An update. (I'm avoiding doing my homework/work so I'll post stuff instead)

I went to the Appleseed 'Winterseed' shoot at Waterman, IL on Feb 5th. We started at 8:45 am in a crisp 4 degrees.

At the end of the day we had two chances to get a rifleman score. I scored rifleman on both. Woo hoo. The 10/22 is shooting good.

Four of the six who got rifleman patches. One day I'll get camo that fits me. :D

Check out that group in the lower left (sitting position) Top target is standing.. I was all over on that one but after about 9 hours of being out in the cold, I was tired and frozen.

I need to add something to my stock for a better cheek weld. I'm using a piece of pipe insulation foam held on with electric tape for now. Works, but not exactly an ideal fix. Not really pretty either.

I started out with Winchester bulk ammo but had several failure to fires so I switched to my CCI mini-mags. Next time I'll try CCI blazers, they're cheaper. You go through a lot of ammo at these shoots. (bring 500 rounds for two days)

So, anyhow. The gun is working good and I'm happy with the modifications. If you guys (Isaiah!) can.. make it to one of these shoots.

    off to work now..
