I finally got my buck back this week, and I'm a little disappointed. Maybe ya'll read the reason earlier, so I wont rehash it. But I think if you look at him, you'll be able to see it.

I have to give a big thanks to my best bud Dave and his wife for covering it. I wasn't gonna do a shoulder mount on him, and they nearly killed me. I'm extremely fortunate to have friends like them. I've always told them that "thank you" just didn't seem like enough, but it's all I've got. Well, I thought of a better way. I'm gonna pay it forward. At some point in the future, some young hunter will be where I was last year, and I'll pay to mount it for him/her. It's the absolute least I can do. [IMG]

mobo - it's a shame that mount turned out the way it did. In retrospect I wish I would've mounted my first buck with a bow (see avatar) and still may some day. When the time comes you can always find another cape and another taxidermist to do the work, but until then you have to be happy with what you've got. It can't be any worse than not have anything on the wall at all. :D

Thanks guys, and Justin, you're right of course. But do you guys see the eyes??? What do you think, would just a little airbrushing touch up help out there, to remove the big white spots?

I think it may help, but it's hard to say with just one view. Post another picture if you can. It looks like the deer's right eye (our left) is either hanging out of his head or lower than the other one or something. Very odd.

Wow Justin, you're right. It does look that way, though I don't know how it could, unless the form was wrong. But it sure enough does. I THINK it's an illusion created by the white corners...here's another view.

It looks like someone did a poor job caping it and messed up the tear ducts. The putty used cover it needs to be colored/air brushed. If that's done, it will look a lot better.

To me it looks like the eyes are way out of position. They should be looking forward, but his are looking out to the sides.

Hey do a search. I seem to remember Germ saying last year, if you got a buck he would pay for the mount. Anybody else remember that?

Yeah, I've been looking at that. I THINK, and hope, it's just because of the lack or coloring around his eyes. I think if those get airbrushed a little, some of that effect will dissipate.

Wow, that is sad to see. A little black airbrushing would probablly help out alot on the tear ducts. Another thing I noticed is that the inside of the ears looks very bald. Its always a tough decision wether or not to get a new cape, my 2004 buck couldn't be mounted with its original cape, and the new cape doesn't have anywhere near the colors that the original did. The buck was 6.5 y.o. or older, and his head was almost blonde with round ears, but the new cape looks like it came off a 1.5 or 2.5 year old with the head being very brown. Overall, I think it was worth it just to be able to look back and remember the experience in a goodlight, even though the cape isn't original.

Mobow.....I can't believe they let that out the door without touching it up. I truly believe if you have that done, it will look a ton better, really. It's not as bed as you think, but I agree that the eyes weren't done quite right. I've seen worse.....BELIEVE me I've seen worse! I think in an effort to make you feel better I will post a mount I had done quite some time ago.....your mount will look like a Rembrandt compared to it. Let's just say that the old atage....."You get what you pay for" applies. I can still hear my Father-in-laws voice......" Get it done down here,(southern, IL.) at $175.00 it's a hell of a lot cheaper than up by us".

Here are a few close up pictures of it......This thing is a wreck, I mean the ears are screwed up, the eyes are bulging out, the antlers look like they're two inches too far forward and to top it all off, the frickin antlers were crooked!! Yep crooked, I had my taxi up here straighten it out as best he could (after apologizing profusely for not using him) however there was only so much he could do with it and he got them a whole lot straighter than they were but the rest of it he said could not be fixed short of a new cape and a complete re-due........Without further adue, here it is.

As you can see the ears are...well, they suck! The eyes are bulging (and you thought yours were bad eh??Look at the fricking antlers....While a whole lot better, they are still crooked. You should have seen it BEFORE it was fixed!

Ok, here is a good view of the antlers....What the hell was this dude thinking?? It looks like they are growing out of his eyeballs!

last, you can see that compared to ones that were done right it's a total and complete wreck! I was so mad at the time but as the years pass it's become kind of a talking piece........of what NOT to do!

No doubt it would look better if it was air brushed, somewhere down the line you can pick up another cape and have it done over if you still dont like it. I also have one that looks bad.

man thats to bad, but it looks like u can doctor it up with some paint... u can always have him reworked down the road... capes are no problem to get either from a critter u kill or through a taxi
