I got a free magazine from the whitetail institute was reading thru it and saw the advertisement for the new head muzzy has out, it is a mechanical. I am somewhat interested. Anybody here have any thoughts on the head?
I saw them in the store and they looked interesting.Sure looked like you'ed get a killer blood trail with them,it looks like they have the trocar tip yet. Give em' a shot and tell us what you think.
Its a hybrid and looks as good as any expandable on the market from what I can tell. The blades pivot back because of ears up front so it does not cam backwards. So in theory except for the retention screw on the blades the center of the furrell should be solid. I say go for it an tell the rest of us what you think Or if you like I will buy a pack of them and shoot them. I'm not locked down on a brand and like trying new stuff. Downside is I won't be able to tell you how well it works or doesn't work till after season starts. PM me if you want me to give them a whirl and report back to you.
I will pay attention to the forums to see what users say, I have till midoctober to pick some up, I wish they made a 125 grain.
Unless you are pushing a speedy arrow, I have never had a problem with getting them to shoot exactly with my field tips. But, I have always preferred a slower, heavy arrow. I have used them since they were the "new" thing. I will admit that the Muzzy of today, is not what it used to be.
Not trying to pee on anyone's parade. I go way back a lot of years and when Muzzy's first showed up, they had the problem of being a very inconsistent head in the hunting circles that I hung around. Three three packs might fill your quiver with five heads that would shoot to the same point. I went away after my first poor hit with a head that I thought was flying true. While guiding, I watched several hunters complain about how badly we had packed their bows in to camp on horseback because when we made them shoot in camp, their Muzzy heads were terribly inconsistent. So I am only commenting from my experience. I know that a lot of people around here like them. I do not.
Ditto. I tried them when I first started bow hunting because of the hype they got. I couldn't get them to shoot. I would watch my arrows corkscrew through the air and hit randomly. People told me my bow wasn't tuned properly but I didn't have that problem with the other heads I shot.
I had the same experience with muzzys. Inconsistent and could not get to group. Shot slick tricks and no problems. Shoot mechanicals now.
I shot Muzzy fixed blades for over 10 years and never had an issue with flight. However I won't be trying this new one as I don't shoot mechanicals.
I shoot muzzys and never had inconsistency problems that weren't caused by the arrow itself. I put the broadhead on and then put it on a spinner. If it spins straight, it will shoot straight.
If your bow is tuned properly the Muzzys will shoot dead on accurate. If not you will be chasing your tail. I am considering going back to the Muzzys 125 grain 3 blades this year. Used them a long time and they performed well.
