It's a real challenge and thrill score with a ML, I've done it twice now. The modern MLs have screw-in choke tubes which generally need to be taken out in order to load it. The second one I bagged,(there was NO wind) I took a deep breath in as I was getting of the ground.. in the process I inhaled a lot of smoke from REAL BLACK POWDER... good thing he wasn't going any where as I was on the ground hacking and coughing unable to anything but gasp for air! I use a TC New Englander 12ga, NO screw-in choke so my max range is 15 yards. It took a lot of load development to get to that point!

    Good luck

Getting a turkey with a bow is hands down way harder than with a ML!

Are you talking about a muzzleloading shotgun or a 50 cal. muzzleloader?

I've taken one bird with my muzzleloading shotgun. It was pretty cool rolling the smoke out on a big old gobbler. I have a CVA Optima Pro 12 gauge that accepts the same chokes that my Mossberg 535 does, so that gives me some options. It takes a lot of testing to find out the right combination of powder and shot without going above the tolerances of your gun, let alone the wad and over shot cards and over powder cushion etc.. You will probably be limited to much less range than your 12 gauge is capable of. I actually toyed around with shooting a load of #7 Hevi Shot out of my muzzleloader with a few of my good 535 chokes. My gun only accepts 1 1/4 ounces of shot I believe, compared to 2 - 2 1/4 typically found in your 3.5" shotgun shells these days so that is a huge limiting factor right there. I know some of the muzzleloading shotguns accept up to 2 ounces of shot. It has been a couple of years since I shot mine but I believe it was good out to about 30 yards, whereas my 535 with a Pure Gold or Indian Creek choke and 3.5" 2 1/4 ounce #7 Hevi 13 shells will put up 270 hits in a 10" circle at 40 yards.
