I know we've got a few pickers on here. Let see what you guys are keeping on the walls of the man caves.

Here is a glimpse at what I have. From left to right:
Epiphone Hummingbird - A copy of the famous Gibson model. Best tone I have ever heard from a sub $500 guitar.
Fender FM-52E Mandolin - Still learning this one. It feeds my bluegrass fetish.
Epiphone Les Paul - Pretty cool little electric that doesn't get as much playing time as it deserves
Fender Alexus 30 - My first guitar that I picked up at a pawn shop one fateful day

    So........whatcha got? :D

I was a music major in college. Today I own no horns, no violins, and no sax. At one time I had them all. I played in All State everything, was asked to be in the Army band etc etc etc. I got drafted, went to Vietnam and never played again. I bet most of you didn't know that. Now I just play with myself. LOL

One of my most memorable times in life was when I was in college. Leonard Berstein came as a guest conductor. We, the college choir at a music school, had practiced and rehearsed the Misiah for a semester. Leonard came in and jerked our chain with his interpretation. I think all 220 of us were awestruck from the get go. We performed and made a record in Buffalo. He truly was gifted, talented and one of a kind. Then I went and became a bullet shooter. LOL

Thanks guys, I love guitars and have been chasing certain tones from amps and guitars, more like tools then treasure.

I mean a fender does not sound like a gibson, and a amp is not just a amp.
or there would be only one guitar and one amp in the world, but we all know different dont we. Some are dogs while others are magic.

ok, i can get on board with that... what i was getting at is that SRV will wound like SRV whether he's playing his fender/fender combo or if he's on a gibson/marshall combo...

Now your your talking about (Style) of playing like srv, clapton, haynes,bb.king , ect all took a tone and a style and made it there own, so it's a combo of both things that makes each person unique,

hubert sumlin was told by howlin wolf that he was fired from his band and never to come back if he was going to use a pic,so he learned how to play with only his fingers

Hendrix was known to go into clubs and write down peoples style of playing and use a tape recorder of people like buddy guy in small clubs he was both looking for tone and style and some people think he was the best ever.

No one has ever been a lighting rod like srv he was the total package and i seen pics of his gibson but i never seen him play it,so i dont think it was the sound or feel he was looking for.

To me no combo in the world sounds like a stratocaster and a fender superreverb amp with a tube screamer.Pure tone heaven.

i hear what you're sayin, but maybe i'm just communicating it poorly... if one of us picked up SRV's #1 strat and plugged it into his rig neither of us would get the same 'tone' out of the rig... his pick attack and fingering of notes would draw tone out of his rig that us mortals could never achieve...

No i do understand, Trust me i do. I am 48 and my grandfather taught me some johhny cash when i was 8 years old,On his 54 fender strat on a 2x10 fender amp. back in 1968 and when he left the house i broke the wammy bar off in the tremo block, trying to be hendrix ......and his (tone) was he was going to woop my arse in the (style) of long sweeping stokes.:nana:

also I am a huge srv fan, as you know. I have tons of his stuff every thing he did from interviews, and gigs before he got a record deal. from the grammys to bootleg concert film and countless cover mags.

and your right no-one sounds like him and never will,

Here is a pic from my collection of a invitation to a guitar clinic in texas.

Ok, you asked for it. Here are a few that have passed thru my stable. I only have the last one pictured right now. I have pics of others that have come and gone, and more amp/effects pedal pics as well. Might post those up later. Brought back memories dragging these pics out. (Excuse my illiteracy at picture sizing)

The SRV in church. You can see part of the Fender Blues Deluxe in the right corner.

The Custom (my) Paint late 80's Ibanez RG550. What a rock machine.

A sweet little acoustic I sold to my brother.

The Epiphone BB King Lucille. Sweet blues, but too big for a frequent player of my size.

And last but not least, my 2010 American Special Strat. I will not part with this guitar until my cold, dead, callused fingers are pried from it.

Its not just the guitar, but the Texas Special pickup array and the tone circuit. I am more impressed with this guitar every day. And you are right. For the money, you will not find a better Strat. I have played so many Strats, and the only one that would top this one was the SRV Signature. I feel I will own another of those in the future. It was probably the only guitar out there that I would be willing to pay asking price for.
