    Hi
I pulled my card to night and I had this feller.
    image.jpg

It is a muntjac deer which we have in the UK. It looks like a nice buck, but it is still in velvet. The muntjac have only moved on to this ground in the last four years and they are building up in numbers. So this little feller will be on the list this winter.

They are not very big ( a good one will weigh 25 pounds in weight dressed). But they taste good and they do not take long to eat so there is always a good excuse to go out hunting to get another one :-)

Are you allowed to hunt with a bow in the UK?

Unfortunately we are not allowed to hunt with a Bow in the UK. If it was so I would be sat out for him with a bow when he is out of velvet.

What is the reasoning behind that? To me using a bow is safer than a gun as far as missed shots and ricochets.

They are worried about poaching with cross bows and we have not had a history of hunting with a bow. I hope one day that we will be able to hunt with a bow but I would not hold my breath as hunters who hunt with the gun. Do not always understand hunting with a bow and they will not support it.

We won so many wars with the bow in our history but no hunting. For me it is gun and dogs hunting only. Until I have my vacation to the states to hunt with a bow.:-)
