lmao germ, are you talking about the actual seat that you sit on or the whole thing including the post?
I have bought $50 lock ons that had plastic buckles to attach the seats....LW are 2 bills with velcro....
Hmm, I'm going to have to look at the seat on mine. I do know what Germ is saying. The seat pad does not cinch down as tight as I would like and it slides a bit. I'll probably remove the velcro and create a more silent attachment system.
Germ - from what I've read your initial impressions are spot on with mine. I hunted with that seat last year and felt the same way you do. Not only do I believe velcro should be outlawed in every hunting application, but the straps were too long and wouldn't allow me to tighten the seat down all the way, so it slid back and forth making noise. Not a fan at all. Additionally, when you put the seat up the pad is so thick it will only allow the seat to get up to about a 45* angle. It could use some refinement for sure. The sticks are the real deal though. I will agree that they're a great design, simple to use, and easy to put up. One big advantage over the ratchet or cam style straps is that you don't have to worry about adjusting them up or down while you're halfway up the tree. There's nothing to adjust, which makes it easier and quicker.
Yes I did that, but it still slides a bit too much for me. I guess I did not pay the money I did for a tree stand to "cut it" to make it work. It's an easy issue to fix IMO, just a shame they did all that good work and screwed the seat up. I am pretty close to sending it back right now. The seat has other issues as well I will point out tonight. I would put 4 snaps on the seat and snap it in. You're done, seat is not going to move or make noise. The steps are just plain great!!!. They get an A+ in my book.
Germ, maybe you should get a Loggy Bayou Predator seat? They are similar to the Lone Wolf style (not a lot of cushion). They also attach with velcro but I don't seem to have any issues with mine. Or maybe just say screw it and upgrade to a LW rather than put more $ into a Muddy. If I were only going to use one stand it would be a LW.
I'm a little biased b/c I've been using LW for so long. Since I'm used to having certain features, I judge other stands based upon that. Overall I give the Muddy a B aside from the seat issue. I appreciate the adjustability of the platform level, but am not a huge an of the pull-knob adjuster. However, I do like the seat adjuster better than the LW. I also like that I can put a set of foot rests on my LW, which I can't do on the Muddy. And although I don't usually use it, I like that the Muddy comes with a ratchet strap. At least I have the option of using it if I want to. IMO for the price, especially considering LW just increased their already high prices, it's hard to beat Muddy for a hang-on stand.
Justin, with giving the Muddy a B I'm assuming the LW would get an A. That being said, what features do you like from either or both stands and if you could make your end-all-be-all stand what features would it have? Just curious, because up until this year I treated hang ons like disposable equipment. The only time they were used was to hang at the beginning of the season and leave in the woods. I didn't spend a lot on them because there was a good chance they wouldn't be there at the end. So, I'm kind of new to the high end hang on scene and want to know what a really good hang on should have for future reference.
