So my father's day gift just came in...they have been on backorder for a couple months. Set of 4 Muddy Pro climbing sticks...First thing I did was weigh them.... Spec weight for the set is 10 lbs but they are coming in closer to 12. Big deal 2 pounds right...But that is about 20% above spec which is significant. Other than the weight, the sticks look pretty good. I was planning to try them on a tree this afternoon when it cools down a bit, but now I'm wondering if I should make a stink about the actual weight vs spec. Wondering if this is a business practice or the Chinese manufacturer cutting costs or what. Anybody else have a set of these, and have you checked the weight if so?
Are you weighing them with the straps and hooks? Try taking them off and see how close to 10lbs. they are. Just guessing.
There's no straps/hooks, these are the ones that just have ropes. I can't image the ropes weigh 2 lbs but I will weigh them and see. This is the set I got: http://www.gomuddy.com/product/the-pro-climbing-sticks/
I can't pull the ropes out easily to weigh them separately. But the four of them probably don't weigh a half pound all together. I'm just going to leave them in the package and call Muddy after the weekend and ask. I'll post up what they tell me here.
Don't bother calling. The 20" are over weight they have always been. The 32" sticks make advertised weight.
After countless hours of "weighing" pros/cons of muddy pro climbing sticks vs lone wolf sticks, I ultimately went with muddy. The rope cam and double steps ultimately "tipped the scales". I assumed they were both accurate in their advertised weights. I can tell you with certainty the 4 pack of Muddy Pro Climbing sticks do NOT weigh 10lbs! They are slightly over 12lbs. I confirmed my scale was accurate. I am weighting (waiting) for a response from muddy. I wonder if LW sticks actually weigh 2.5lbs with the strap (which is needed to, per manufacturers recommendation, secure stick to tree)? BTW, I've never posted but do appreciate all the info shared. Felt compelled to share my experience.
