Just go ahead and buy Ameristep sticks and hang on stand. You could buy 2 setups for the price of one LW or Muddy. Just my opinion. A tree stand is a tree stand IMO. I don't even put the seat on mine.. Be a man! Stand up! lol (What my grandpa used to say.)
Yeah definitely listen to iHunt on this one. Climbers are fine if you only care about getting 5-10 ft off the ground. Our trees here just are get too wind whipped and gnarly for a climber to be really useful. Sticks and hang on are the only way to go. Possibly have a few screw in steps for some of the more hairy trees. My two scents on the stands. Grab the lonewolf. Muddy is nice stuff but they are heavier than they advertise and you can't beat the platform on the LW. I don't own either but have used both. If you looking for an elite stand its LW all the way.
The difference is, if you buy 2 Ameristep stands and sticks, then you have that- 2 treestands to hunt. I have a virtually infinite amount of possibilities and tree stand locations because I hunt from a Lonewolf and sticks and I pack in and out on each hunt. So while you are limited to 2 predetermined locations, I can hunt on the fly, be mobile, and keep the deer guessing as to my location.
Lone Wolf stand and sticks no doubt. Has completely changed the way I've hunted. For a harness I use the Muddy.
I have a muddy hunter stand. I really like it. I use the seat cushion on all my other (cheaper) stands and it makes them fairly comfortable. I haven't had a chance to try a LW. I don't use sticks either.
I use the muddy vantage and lone wolf sticks. The stand is great but idve never tried a lone wolf. Hoping to get one for next season. The sticks are amazing. I absolutely love them. They grip the tree so well and are so simple to put up its stupid. Sent from my SCH-R970 using Tapatalk
I like the way Muddy Sticks and Stand hook up to the tree but they way they anchor to the tree itself can be a little pain in the but.
Muddy or Lone Wolf, you will be satisfied with your decision. I think it's an even closer match than ford vs. chevy. That said, I LOVE my muddy setup. I have the hunter hang-on, 5 sticks, and the harness. I can get easily 16+ feet up in the tree comfortably and I'm not tall, 5'8" with triceratop legs. The super mount works great. The seat is comfortable, even for an all day sit. I like the footrest and larger platform on the hunter and it's still light enough to pack in. I did have to tighten a few bolts due to 1 squeaking but that's normal, and I went way to long without checking things. The harness is very comfortable, comes with a linesman rope and you can get clips to carry the sticks on your side as you climb. I have never tried a lone wolf. It's obvious from the responses you've read they make an awesome product so I wouldn't hesitate at all to buy one. It was more of a price point thing with me. I will tell you this, I have definitely gotten my money out of this setup though. It has definitely been a total game changer.
Well I have decided to buy a Lone Wolf because they are local to me also my local archery shop is out of LW hang-ons but they are willing to pick one up for me. Hard to beat good customer service and I will decide on a harness once I try a few on and see what fits better. Thank you guys for all of the advice.
I have an Alpha hang on and as of right now it's more of a permanent stand (I move it maybe 2-3 times through the year). I'm looking at getting better with the run and gun style this coming off season but I'm wondering what style harness is the best. I have the spider harness now and it's great, but I was thinking about going with something with the integrated lineman's belt rather than using my tree strap and moving it as I go up. For those that use the stand and sticks setup, do you also use the Lone Wolf harness? Any tips would be great. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk www.skyangler.com
I use a Muddy with the sticks and have to say I'm a fan, that's not to say the LW isn't equally as good or better, but I've gotten everything I expected out of my Muddy setup. My only complaint would be the lack of design and thought that went into how the sticks would connect to the stand when packing it in and out. ....With that being said, I do look forward to trying the LW setup, especially after reading all the responses.
I have 2 years experience with the Muddy Harness and have nothing bad to say about it.. It's easy to use, has a lineman's belt built into it, and is light... once it's on you forget it's there! To me, that's a good thing.
Ok thanks. That's what I was hoping to get for an answer. Was wondering what other brands have the lineman's belt integrated into the harness. I feel like that would be the best option for an easy climb and then transfer to the tree when at the correct height. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk www.skyangler.com
