Best wife in the world just came home with the muddy hunter stand and matching sticks I know this is the review section , so I'll have to let you know after a few hunts what I think ) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Very nice. Im enjoying my muddy but will probably buy a lone wolf next year to decide which one is my favorite. Im using lone wolf sticks which are killer. Sent from my SCH-R970 using Tapatalk
I've got the lone wolf sticks , they are awesome Don't have this muddy hung yet but tomorrow may be the day) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I have a muddy I still use. I use it as a permanent stand. To heavy for a portable setup for me. I also have their original sticks. I didn't like how far they hung off the stand when stacked (5 of them). I ended up coming up with my own mounting system and lay them on their side. Seat on the Muddy stand was nice the first year. Not so much in years one and two. I went to a Lonewolf assault and alpha. Use the assault on long trips in and the alpha on shorter trips. Mostly just use the Alpha anymore. My oldest boy has started hunting and the Assault is a great platform size for him. Don't get me wrong. Muddy makes fine products, I just prefer the Lonewolf.
Hung the muddy today with sticks .. So far I love this set up. I'm easily 18 ' up and it took all of about five minutes to hang sticks and stand. The step between the sticks is a big one but nothing I can't manage. The tree is nice and strait so I didn't get to try the leveling system . I'm gonna kill a monster out of it in the morning.. Then I'll let you know how easy it is to take down Happy hunting Polecat Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Totally agreed! And lets not forget that Lone Wolf is USA made vs china on the muddy. I use LW alpha and 4 sticks and that was a consideration when I purchased...now I am SO glad I went Lone Wolf. One thing about muddy though... china or not, I LOVE their harness...I tried my buddys on one time and I had to have one.
I just purchased the Muddy Vantage treestand and Hunter sticks. I have used climbers all my life so this is a learning experience. I have used them twice now and I think both are very good products. The only problem I have had is carrying the sticks. I finally went to the LoneWolf website and purchased a carrying strap, problem solved. Muddy had no accessory straps of any kind that would work.
I'd like to see someone hang an entire Muddy set up "in 5 minutes." It takes me at least 20 to do it safely. Maybe I'm doing something wrong. I have a muddy pro hunter stand - and I like it. Like. I LOVE my Summit Raptor. It's more comfortable, lighter, and easier to hang. There's no way in heck that Muddy's stand is only 15lbs as advertised. More like 20. The Muddy is only as comfortable as the Summit if you also use a tree stand lumbar back rest in tandem.c That being said, the Muddy sticks are the way to go. I can't deal with the LW single-sided steps, and Summit's "steps" are a joke.
5 Minutes might be tough but I know I can get it done in well under 20. Especially if I have already hung that tree before. I struggled the first year I used sticks. I found the key was to do all your prep before you start climbing. I never descend once I start climbing. Everything is on me or attached to a pull rope as I make the climb. If you can figure that out it will cut your time down by half!
I agree with that in principle! having all the steps tied to my harness makes a huge difference. One of the other reasons I like my Summit over my Muddy is the Summit comes with that "easy hang" bracket; I know Muddy makes something similar and that probably also cuts down on hang time considerably, but it's an additional $40 and the Summit comes with one and the Summit is appx 5lbs lighter and more comfortable. For safety's sake; I usually strap my steps, hang my bracket, and attach my climbing rope in one climb, then head down, get the stand and everything else for the second (and final) climb. I can (and have) done it in one go; but man it's a beotch. Sweating like a you-know-what in church by the end of it.
I have a carry strap I use for the sticks. It's made by Lonewolf. It allows me to sling the strap over my shoulder. I rest the sticks on my lineman's harness and remove one stick from the carry strap and attach stick to tree. I repeat this process until I get to the desired height. I made my own quick hang system for the stand. It's nothing more than some rope with a carabineer . I connect it to the tree. Next, I have a pull rope tide to my harness that my stand is connect to. I have another pull rope that connects my stand to my bow. Once I secure the stand I will attach my safety strap to the tree, hook in, remove my lineman's belt and climb onto the platform. I will then attach my bow holder > pull my bow up > nock arrow, place bow on bow holder and lastly put my release on. Game on! This works all lock on and stick setups regardless who makes them!
