I was looking at the Muddy outdoors Harness and it looks like a good design. My HSS is great, but it is extremely bulky and horrible to wear on warm days, but I like the ease of it. Anyone have any experience with the Muddy Harness. Any input would be appreciated.
Overall I really like it, but the chest strap could definitely use some refinement. I was told that it was being addressed for this year's model, but haven't seem one with my own two eyes to verify that. Other than that, it's a great harness. Lightweight, easy to put on, and the leg straps are easy to use. I resolved my chest strap issue by cutting it off. :D Watch this video to see why - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j4hPiNWFbWM
I've been back and forth between the Muddy harness and the updated HSS that you all reviewed. I just don't know which one I want to get. All I know is I do not like the harness that came with my Viper and I am ready to replace it before this season.
I am gonna be trying a Muddy this year. Gonna be a huge step up from my Ameristep vest and the contraptions that come with each stand.
I hear ya about the "contraptions." I've been using my Summit harness for about 4-5 years now. I'm thinking about giving one (muddy) a try...hopefully a newer model one with the improved chest strap.
Yes, the strap is adjustable. However, it uses a parachute-type latching mechanism where the two ends aren't actually fastened together, but rather held together by the force of the straps pulling outward on them. Good idea, and it works good for the waist harness, but the chest harness doesn't adjust small enough so the "end" winds up dangling loose. This is compounded when you're wearing binos attached to the harness, as they tend to pull the straps even closer together. I only wore the binos on the harness once, then went back to my trusty Crooked Horn harness. To address the issues w/the chest strap they are supposed to be converting over to a 1" wide strap with a standard plastic buckle - hence no more "hanging" ends.
Cool...I think I'll wait until the new and improved harness is released and place my order. Thanks man!
I'm in the market for a new harness as well I was liking the looks of the Muddy, except the chest strap. I'm glad the chest strap is going to be changed. Otherwise it looks like a great harness!
Muddy only sells through authorized pro shops and online at their website gomuddy.com. I'm not 100% sure on the update to the harness but I'll try to find out and let you know.
