anyone used Muddy's climbing sticks? Did you find a need for five? considering buying, but wondering if four are enough.. Thanks!
I am assuming you are refering to their 20" stick. They came out with a couple other models this year. I have them. I carry 5 and use them all when I can. I think for most people four is enough. I like to get all the height I can get. I even really stretch them out. I am going to go with the 32" hunter version next set I buy.
yes, i was looking at the 20's. you think the 32's are the way to go? i'm guessing four would do it. do you also have a Muddy hang on? i have a summit climber, but finding trees on public land has been difficult...
I always like a stick higher than the stand to grab onto when getting on a off the stand. Life lines are a must as well.
5 Lonewolf sticks at 32" will get you around 22' feet to the platform... Using the short muddy sticks I'd have to figure that 4 would only get you around 15-16'.
I have two sets of the lone wolf sticks and one set of the muddy. I have only used the muddy sticks once. I didn't care for them much. They just don't feel nearly as solid. My muddys are sitting on the floor in the garage.
I have 5. I also like one to be at least halfway up the stand, just feel more secure that way. I can sit pretty high in a tree, never tried to measure. I just go up as high as i can or need to, never had a problem.
I tied a rope on the bottom of each of my muddy sticks, creating an extra step on each stick. I get 6ft out of each stick.
4 Muddy 20" sticks only equal 6.6' of stick. Calculate how far you have to space them out to get 15' and above the stand which is the way you are supposed to set sticks. You should never climb up into a stand from your last step for safety reasons. I would go with 32" sticks unless you plan to tie foot loops on to get extra height.
I love my Muddy (4) sticks... Get me up about 16' or a bit more and they are so veritable I find myself tucked in some great trees that create a deadly ambush. Height isn't everything and often causes a much tougher shot angle
I use 4 sticks and the hunter pro. Works fine for me. I've thought about buying a fifth stick but that's just added weight and sometimes I find the trees I like to get into, I can't go any higher than 4 sticks will take me. I may add a loop to step in like others have mentioned maybe for the bottom stick so I can get an extra foot or two but that's it. I also have a Muddy Hunter Hang On. Like the seat better then the standard seat on the alpha II. I would much rather sit in a millennium stand but you can't beat the versatility of an adjustable platform / seat. I bought the Millenniums before they had a model that has a adjustable platform / seat. So to recap. I have LWs, Muddys, and Millenniums. None of which are perfect. I wish Muddy would go to a solid cast platform.
I feel like im in a lazy boy with my Millennium but I wouldnt want to be packing that thing all over. Looking into investing into a Muddy set just so that way I have it to be mobil when I need to be
Right with you on the Millennium. I bout two m100s and 10 extra blocks last year. By far the most comfortable stand. Unfortuantly the tree has to be damn near perfect!
