Seriously thinking about building a Mud motor but not sure what is better, long tail or short tail ? There are many how to's on youtube and kit/plans you can buy on e-bay. Ill probably make most parts myself because I love fabricating things. It will be used for both Bow fishing and water fowling. its for a 16/48 John boat. Has anyone here built there own ? looking for tips tricks advise ?

I have been seriously mulling this as well Dan! I want one bad and they are pricey boogers. I was thinking short tail for my rig.

My dad has a long tail, and the thing is a pain to maneuver in tight spots. Other than that it goes through pretty much everything. If I were to build one, I'd go short tail.

Dan keep me posted on how this goes! I have been watching for a jon boat for duck and bowfishing and I have a duck blind in a swamp that is real tough to get to. A mud motor would be awesome!
