Not sure if I've mentioned this before but this is how I prefer to "paint" any stands I make outta wood, Instead paint/stain I use MUD. I have one shooting house I built 12_14 years ago and it looks the same now as when I built it. Mix dirt n water and just rub it in hard. Creates a hard, dull, durable, natural looking finish that blends in great and does not stink of shine. Here is a bird feeder I just built outta scrap wood. The mud is still just a bit wet but should be dry soon.
I do this with alot of my waterfowl gear. Mix up a bucket of mud and commence to sloppin it all over everything. Takes the shine out of layout blinds and other camo fabric. I may try this with our main blind which we will have to replace plywood walls, but does a hard rain wash it off?
LOL..I just skimmed that and scrolled down at shooting house..."What the hay, is he a leprechaun? ....hahahaha
Weird. I know when I want to wash mud off my patio or porch I just hit it with the garden hose. Wonder how it manages to stick around on a blind so well... If the soil used has a good amount of clay content then that makes sense. Especially after a few really hot days out there, the clay binds up like concrete. Bet it would act as a pretty good insulator too...cause I know Adobe houses are usually much cooler in summer months than a Brick home.
I probably should explain it better. Yes! Rain will eventually knock off the thick stuff but the dull Grey "patina "remains. OSB with rough side out stands up (ok) but plywood or rough sawn lumber is way better long term.
