Robert Plant turns down almost $1 billion to reunite Led Zeppelin - UPI.com I've always been a huge Zeppelin fan. I've also always respected them for NOT continuing on without John Bonham after his death. I'm sure many disagree with me, but I agree with Plant when he said, it's time to move on. As a former musician, nothing but respect to Plant. even though Jason Bonham would fill the role (john's son) it would NOT be the same. Some of these other bands need to give it up.. such as Lynyrd Skynyrd who are a complete joke still touring with only ONE original band member.
Things change in life. I have no problem with a band that continues to do what they love. What better replacement than John's son. I mean, perfect really. No, it would not be exactly the same, but even if John was still alive, it doesn't mean he would be exactly the same. I think its a shame that Plant may have made a selfish decision that would take life changing amounts of money out of the pockets of the rest of the band. But, we really don't have a clue as to what is really going on here.
Queen is another that shouldn't tour anymore! and I second that Zep shouldn't either. Thank God this is Motley Crues last season touring!
So what do you guys propose that these musicians that are still alive and love to play do? Because some of their band mates have quit or died, they should just give up doing what they love? Should they be made to play under a different band name? I guess I am confused. Is someone making you attend the concerts? VERY few successful bands maintain the same original starting lineup.
I would sing Stairway to Heaven with Micky mouse for that kind of cash and laugh all the way to the bank.
Maybe just to carry on as solo artist or another name. Slash did it with Guns and Roses, Velvet Revolver turned out OK. What if the Beetles went on tour again! Paul, Ringo, Bieber, and Rick Astley !!!
I'm going to have to disagree, that's crazy money to turn down. If their willing to offer him $800 million then I guess people want to see a reunion. I think he really screws the rest of the band members that wants the reunion and may have good use for that kind of cash. Plant could give the $ to a charity if he doesn't need it.
If bands weren't allowed to change members, we would have missed out on a lot of great music from Van Halen and AC/DC. There are probably more examples but my point is that a band should be allowed to evolve as time passes. You as a fan can still prefer the "old" stuff but it doesn't automatically invalidate the new music/artists. They also deserve a chance to be heard and accepted/rejected.
I would think Plant would do it out of respect for Jason Bonham by giving his son a shot in the lime light and a ton of cash.
Here are 10 bands that not only changed a member, but changed the lead singer and still kept their original name and did well for themselves. Some of them still do. I think it only makes sense to continue on and give the fans an opportunity to decide for themselves. Van Halen Black Sabbath Motley Crue Journey Styx Deep Purple Iron Maiden Alice In Chains Genesis Judas Priest
Add AC/DC to that list, they're even releasing a new album in a few weeks. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
