Here is what I had typed up back in 2006:

It was Friday Nov 3rd, 2006 and I dont usually hunt the morning. But I am off on fridays from my 3rd shift job and decided I was going to hunt a new stand I put and only used it once. I seen does on a fternoon hunt so figured its rut give it a shot. The wind was out of the west and I would be facing west so it was perfect. I got into my stand about 05:55 am and it was a cold 22. Well about 7ish I relized I forgot my grunt tube so I broke off a small branch and got out my estrous deer can and started making some racket with them. I turned to sit back down in my stand and looked out to the west and sure enough a doe staring in my direction but kind of to my south. I sat there and watched her and she came my way but to the north and jumped the creek to my side and started heading north about 100 yards away. So I took the can and called twice and she stopped on the dime and turned right around and started heading towards me. Well she gets 20 yards out in front of me for a perfect shot so I pull back and right away she looks just right up at me and gone to the south.
So I sit back down for a few minutes and decide to put a camo wool mask on due to the cold. I get back up and started wacking the tree again with my branch and turning the can. I sit back down again and look to the west and I couldnt believe my eyes. The buck of my dreams is coming down about 50 yards to north of where the doe trail comes across. I sit there and just breath slowly as I got to watch this buck for about several minutes.
He heads straight at me in a southeastern direction and comes to the same trail the doe walked. He sticks that head down and messes around with the ground for a bit then crosses the trail and heads about 30 yards out in front of me to the west/northwest a bit still on otherside of the creek.
He looks to the south and I go to pull the bow back and he decides to turn and look my way and I stop in mid pull. So he puts his head down and decides to jump the creek towards me at which time I let the bow back down. I redraw and he gets sideways facing south at about 23 yards. I have my bow in full draw and I cant get the sights right in my peep the way i usually do because of the dang mask. *I only use it now during gun lol* So i the string in front of my face more basically touching my front lips and I get him in the peep and release. He jumps back over the creek and I can see the hole in his side but back a bit. He runs about 300 yards to the edge of the woods to the west. By this time I am besides myself and am dialing my brother on the cell phone. Yes this quick while watching him. He stands there for a couple minutes and then heads into the woods up this little hill. I have to tell you seeing the sun hit those antlers will be something I never ever will forget.
Well my brother on the cell phone is elated and says he will head up for the 25 minute drive. I sit there and call co worker and he is going to head over also. We after 15 minutes I couldnt take it anymore and got down and jumped the creek to look for my arrow. (Yes the wrong side) I couldnt find it. My brother gets there and we meet with co worker and were walking on my side of the creek and he looks down and say hey here is your arrow. Im like sob I looked on otherside in my excitement. Well we get on the good blood trail quick and get to where I last seen him. He is heading west and we follow it all the way to the fence line. I see blood on the fence where he jumped and a nice blood spot on the otherside.
Well that was it the only blood and we searched and search and finally im looking at that spot and I notice blood on the fence about 10 yards to the north. It looks like he jumped the fence stood then jumped back over. My brother is standing there and I say hey is there blood going to the north before he jumped and he say **** yeah there is.
He follows it for 25 yards and we find where he laid down. I still cannot figure this out to this day what happen there. Blood both sides, blood both spots on fence. Well after the bed we cannot find anymore so we search n search those woods and nothing. Its now abour 12:30ish and brother has to leave and co worker things were done and he has to go. I call a buddy and he is 2 hour drive away working but hes gonna leave and come meet meet me about 3ish. So I go back to my truck and took a little nap and he shows about 4 and we have a hour before dark. We look and nothing and im pretty down. I get home and call my brother and he says he is going to hunt in the morning and we can look after that. Well next day by 07:45 he cant take it anymore and calls me to come up. Im there by 08:30 and we search more woods to the south and around my stand and nothing. At this point its about 09:30 and im having closure that hes gone. Well my brothers cell phone rings and his friend says when a buck gets hit in the liver they like to jump into water to cool it. Well were by my stand and my brother jumps right in and says lets follow this. So we head north and after about 20 minutes we get to the only corner of the property we didnt really check thinking he wouldnt come that far. Well I hear HOLY ****. Im like what, he says there he is. Im like mike dont screw with me. He says no look. I could not believe it and when I went to go see him I fell in the creek trying to jump it with my beagle in tow. We hugged like you wouldnt believe and he was so glad he got to be the one to find it.
I have to tell you never ever give up. Even though im the older one out of us he taught me well. It turned out I must of hit the liver and I am very lucky thats for sure because that hit went straight down and came out real low on the otherside. Sorry it was so long but I had to share it. I have learned a couple things here, if you dont find that buck after first 100-200 yards wait a bit before tracking. In my excitement I should waited longer because I knew the hit. 2nd gotta love family they will always be there for you.
    Tony
