Finally was able to make it over and check my 2 cams I had set up. This is the first time I have ever set up a mineral site (i set up 2). I set these up with 2 bags each of Monster Raxx and a Trophy Rock. They were set up on Memorial Day (5/26) and I pulled the cards on 6/22. I was kind of disappointed with what I got as far as pictures and the quantity of pictures. The first spot I only had ~375 pics in the month. I set the site up about 10 yds off of a major trail. This trail is the same trail I killed my buck off of last year. The 2nd site is on a ridge that is absolutely covered in deer sign. It only produced ~150 pictures and most of them weren't by deer. So take a look at let me know what I can do better as far as building the site, camera placement, etc.

I certainly wouldn't call it cheating if you dumped a bag of corn on it every time you freshened it up. IMO sometimes deer need to realize what is there after they start consuming it all and that corn would help accomplish that. Just put it down first and pour a fresh bag of MR over the top. They'll soon figure out that it's all good to eat.

    Great pics BTW!

I have heard the soil is very acidic in pines and that may have something to do with it.

Im a stumper or a logger when starting a mineral site for the most part. The dry soil wont hold the water either and they really hammer it when water is present

    Just my thoughts

Thanks guys. I had no idea that pine soil is acidic. Is there anything i can do about it? Both trophy rocks are sitting up off the ground on a stump and log. I did not think about the corn. I might try that. I do like the looks of that bigger buck. he has some potential. And he definitely looks like a mature buck from the shape/size of his body.
