So Ive been running some tests on my new mp6 cams in the back yard and I gotta say I'm a bit dissappointed in the night photos. I don't know if this is operator error with camera placement or angle or whatever my testing was cut short and ill get back at it this weekend but just thought I would share some pics to see what you guys think. The first and second pic was taken from the same place first was with a moultrie d55irxt. Both mp6 cams are about the same with a lot of totally black pics. The third pic I'm only about 20 ft away
Hmmmm strange, mine dont have the brightest flash but still brighter then that. Try an get a hold of gutone4me (Pat Howard) on here he can help ya out.
Those are not normal. Keep me posted after farther testing this weekend. I will be out of the office until next Tuesday.
Is there a flash range setting? Can you see LED's glowing? Is there any protective film over the lens or LEDs (I once left a piece on a lens and was disappointed with the pics until I realized it was there a couple MONTHS later).
I don't think there's a setting for the flash but ill double check. I did take off the lens cover though. I only put four batteries instead of the eight so that may have something to do with it I don't know. I do see the LEDs glowing but they do look week everything else seems fine with the camera it takes a pic anytime I'm near it and the day pics look great so ill double check some stuff this weekend and see how it goes. Thanks for the input. Pat hopefully I just missed something obvious but ill let you know how it goes
why would you only use 4 batteries in an 8 battery camera? the camera might operate/power up on 4 batteries and work fine in daylight when the flash is not required, but the LEDs are going to draw & require full power more than likely. I'd fill it up with batteries and test again.
Agreed I'd try it with 8, if still not good, contact Covert and they'll take care of you for sure quickly!
I just got to MP6's in the mail yesterday. I hope that's not normal! Hope to have them in action soon.
I only tried it with 4 because in the instructions it said could operate on 4 and to use 8 if I planned on leaving it out for long periods of time it said nothing about it affecting the flash if that's the case, which it may be, they shouldn't say it could operate on just 4. I also watched a review on the camera and the guy testing it says he only used 4 batteries and said the night pics were good. I'm new to the whole trail camera thing even tho I have several I haven't used them much so I really don't know what to expect yet so this is why I asked. I realized it could be something I did or didn't do but I ran out of time to test it so ill see how it goes this weekend.
I'd still bet judging from Pat's (gutone4me) reaction it isn't normal, I'd just contact Covert, one of the best customer service.
My mp6 was doing the same thing ! it took weak pics with 4 batteries and also with 8 batts but the Customer service is great and im sure they will help you out if there if theres anything wrong with your camera!
Update guys I tried putting 8 batteries in one cam and 4 in the other and set them up in my garage which isn't the best Indicator because I have white doors and I guess they reflect a lot of light but the pics from the cam with 8 batteries were definitely brighter so ill probably test them out tomorrow night outside to see the difference but we're getting snow right now so that in itself would probably help the flash but ill have comparison pics up by Monday. Thanks
I got mine the other day and from just a few tests pictured ok. Think I will put it out in the back yard and let it run for a day or two of catching dog pictures just to confirm it's working.
Glad to hear that could be the factor, makes sense and while Covert claims the camera can operate on 4 it would make sense I guess the picture quality could suffer some due to the battery strain.
You will get much better pics if you place it in the woods so some of the light would reflect back onto the subject. Give that I try and I think you will be happier.....
Will do. Yeah I need to try out a few different things to see what works best hopefully have it all worked out soon.
