:bash: Ah yes the snakes.....not my favorite creature to come across in the woods. My lease in South GA has a good number of them.

If you can deal with Heat, Ticks, Mosquitos, and the occasional snake...hunting the South East is right up your alley.

Positives are you can usually begin hunting in September (huge plus), and the seasons generally last for 5 months!

Oh yeah the snakes. I don't know what species are around that area of GA but, the worse here are copper heads. Our season in NC goes from mid September through Jan 1st I believe opening day is September 11th which is on a Sunday this year.

GABowhunter, What are the dates of the GA season this year?

Welcome...for 60ish dollars you can hunt deer for 5 months, turkeys for 2 and fish ALOT of places. Yotes day or night..etc. One thing to warn, the deer are not the size you are use to, not speaking of headgear but just body size in general. My grandmothers side are all from Gainsville, was just there a few weeks ago. You are relatively close to metro Atlanta, so the WMA's will get very crowded. But good spots can stil be had.

If you have any questions please let me know.

2 tips right off the bat...
1st go to Gon.com and join the site, it is our state magazine and the site is huge, the guys will be VERY helpful
2nd since you are moving here do not go to Bojangles for a taste of the south...lol

This year season is Sept 10 - Jan 1 in the Northern Zone. Rifle season opens on Oct 15 though and that's when the public lands get real crowded.

And I agree with Michael, there's better places to get a taste of the south than Bojangles.

Phillip is right, when the gun season opens the crowds show up...but I guess that is probably true about anywhere you go.

Are you interested in joing a club, or just getting a feel for the public land that is offered?

Also, you are right at lake lanier, and man do they have some serious stripper fishing, some of the local boys can put you onto that if it's your thing.

I don't eat bojangles thats what the "lol" was for at the end of that statement. If I am going to eat a gravy biscuit, it will be home made by grandma. I sent a guy I met there that had just moved from Chicago as a joke and he loved it. He ate breakfast there for 3 months straight. I prefer hole in the wall mom and pop places myself.

Anyways, sounds like GA and central NC is on the same schedule. Fortunately I hunt private land and only 2 others will hunt it this year and they will be hunting it very little.

    Good luck on the move.

I'm no newbie to Southern Life lived in rural NC for 4 years after high school. I also spent a couple years in Florida (although that's not really the South) ;) sorry Nate

Congrats on the move. I'm sure you won't miss those cold mornings in December this year. Make sure you pack your Thermacell. When I hunted GA I learned they have lots of mosquitos in multiple sizes.

Best of luck to you! With an Ohio accent, you shouldn't stick out much! What part of Ohio are you moving from, I might know someone interested if you're selling.
