This deer was killed probably 30 minutes from me.

I got picture after picture sent to me in the following week saying it was the "new state record" and "new world record" and that the guy sold it to Cabela's for $75,000.

Maybe 10 days or so after the approximate date of the kill, I got some text messages and calls from guys saying that the hunter and outfitter (not mentioning names) are in quite a bit of trouble, because a deer farm spoke up and said that the deer was raised and then bought by the outfitter so that somebody could kill it.

Take it for what you want, just thought I would get all the information that I've heard about it, to you guys.

Great buck! It is definitely a "glamour shot" though, that guys arms are fully extended in front of him. No doubt a great deer, but I would like to hear what it actually scores. It looks like he is taking a picture for Waddell or Tiffany, the right setup and perspective can make a deer look massive. Either way it's a great buck!

    To add to the mystique.;)

First thing I thought when I saw the picture, was way too many deductions as a typical. Then I looked closer and thought “deer farm buck.” It is an impressive deer no doubt, but I don’t think it is a world record. I’d sure be happy to have him on my wall that’s for sure.

Pic seems a little distorted and that buck seems pretty non typical.

Ha ha ha ha!!! This deer was killed by Neil Newlin in the Hutsonville, IL. area. It's about 10 min from my hometown. Green grossed 248 3/8". No deer farm even remotely close to that area. Not to mention an outfitter. His family owns several hundred acres of farmland. CougarMag on here probably has more details. He still lives in my hometown. I saw better pics and the deer still had a lot of dried velvet on his rack.

What do I think? I think its hard to tell how big it is when the nose is 1" from the camera lens. Either that or this guy's torso is about 18".

Looks like an awesome deer though.

Truely a GIANT, but as previously mentioned, it has too many deductions as a typical to give Milo anything to worry about. I love all of the hoop-la these big deer get. The story gets told in 10 different renditions. Crack me up! :jerry:

It was taken right on the Clark / Crawford Co. line. If you look on a map, my hometown is Robinson. This is the biggest deer I know of taken in that area since Rick Ellington's buck that was killed in 1997. That deer was a legend. It grossed in the 230's, but Gerald Shaffner found the sheds off of that deer the year before that grossed 229 7/8" typical!! That deer is featured in the October 1998 issue of North American Whitetail, which is sitting in my lap as I type this. I just had to look it up!

I think its even better that some many people get jealous that the story does'nt matter,
I always hear "why can't I shoot a buck like that."
It's an easy answer for me.
" You can't shoot them sittin on your but playing fantasy football !"
I harvested 2 p&y bucks last year and all I heard from my buddies was
" I should have gotten that deer".
I always tell them fantasy football is to them like dungeons and dragons to the nerds of the 70's.

Hmmm... would said outfitter happen to live in Martinsville? BTW, the guys telling you it was from a deer farm.... where did they get that info? Just trying to discern rumor from fact, if that's possible, lol.

Lunger: Can you post a pic/scan of Rick's buck? I saw it right after he shot it and took a pic but lost the film.
