say you have the opportunity to move to any state in the lower 48 states with the same income level you currently have. The only restriction is you have to live w/in 1 hour of a semi-metropolitan area.

Where would you move, and why?

I would move to either colorado or Oregon I would have to say. Montana would be right up there as well.

Either Colorado or Montana. Slight lean towards Montana.

I'll never stray far from the lakes of MN.

For those who would rather live somewhere else...what's stopping you?

I feel like we had this same thread not too long ago and you asked the same question? Deja vu?

Like what was prefaced in the OP...money.

To make good money in both our careers (but especially mine), I am best suited to the Mid-Atlantic.

I should also add that I do like where I live. I just hate the inability to buy land at affordable prices and winter :D

I was big into off roading through college, but there's very little in the way of public land to do that here. Out in the west (NorCal, Colorado, Utah, etc.), there are TONS of places to go off roading. Forest roads that meander for days, mountain passes, old coal mine towns, etc., Not to mention the fishing and hunting opportunities.

However, seeing as my wife REALLY loves the ocean, (the Pacific doesn't count)...particularly the Eastern Caribbean, and we're a short flight or cruise away living on the east coast. It all comes down to personal preferences and compromises.

I've had a similar offer before, but my job usually required me to be near a city or major airport due to my occupation and frequent travel.

Charlotte NC, Denver CO, Raleigh NC, Charleston SC, Roanoke VA were my top picks.

Not to disrupt the thread, but it's also an interesting question to ponder at the international level (with relo and salary adjustment/cola, etc. )

Well...I would never live more than an hour away from a semi-metro area anyways...well, I could, but my wife couldn't.

    Our top choices would be:

Seattle, WA - came really close to moving there 2 years ago.
    Denver, CO (or Fort Collins)
    Santa Fe, NM
    Charleston, SC
    Nashville, TN
    Austin, TX

What Fitz said. We are getting close to 200k here in Huntsville. Throw Madison in and you are about 250k. And now that Remington, DPSM, etc. is on their way in, those numbers will rise even more than they normally do. If this counts, id stay here, just move out of town and into the county so i could have a little bit of land.

    Denver, CO area
NW, WI maybe Rice lake area
I would also consider Montana/Wyoming but would need to do more research.

Although most of the places I listed, with my current income level, it would mean I would have to downsize a bit. All of those places are much more expensive than my current city.

I guess that would be the trade off. Downsize, but live in a more desirable city.

Back east, in the New England area. I don't have an idea yet

I love where I live now and want my kids to grow up here. Once they're gone, we'll up and move :)

Many of my answers mimic Hookers.

    Anchorage, AK is number one.

    Then Rapid City, SD
    Santa Fe, NM
    Denver, CO
    Portland, OR
    Or Seattle, WA

    Probably in that order.
