Hey, I just got my FIRST BUCK EVER with a bow last night and I'm pretty excited. Thinking about doing a european style mount. Just looking for advice on how to get that to turn out nice!

    Thanks!

    Congrats.

I've done two european mounts myself. I tried the beetles once and they all died before finishing the skull.

If you want a more hands-off approach, try this. I took a 5 gallon bucket from a hardware store, put the full deer head in it, and filled in with grass clippings from my yard. I left it out for about a month or two, it didn't stink or anything, and when I pulled it out the skin and everything was completely gone. Some regular old bugs from my yard had climbed in and cleaned it. I then took a tooth brush with some peroxide to whiten the bone a little.

Some people boil it and scrape at the flesh with a tool of some sort. This seems like a hassle to me, and an easy way to accidentally damage your skull.

Other people bury it. This seems to me like it would take a longer time, and you could damage it while digging it up.

    Anyway, good luck

Thanks guys, I'll give that a try. Either method sounds pretty good, because I'd hate to damage the skull scraping at it with a knife...

i would call a taxidermist an get a quote or two it wont coast that much and you dont have to deal with the mess or trying to degreas it and then bleach. To do a euro right it take time and skill to get them to come out clean and white. if your set on doing it yourself google maceration. This is the way alot of the taxidermy shops will do it and you will end up with a better end result. if you were to do beetals you have to establis a colony and keep it fed for months befor it will do a hole skull.
