I had a guy give me a Schwin mountain bike. Said it needed new inner tubes and a tune up. I'm completely "bike dumb" and have no idea what/how to tune a mountain bike to make sure it's ready to ride. Anyone know anything?
Air up the tires and put some slime in them, wd40 the chain and anything that moves, and go crash But in all seriousness, I have no clue.
I believe by tune up he means check and adjust so the bike shifts correctly and smoothly through its gears. Also check/adjust the brakes and as mentioned above check/ lube chain .
Some times you need the cables for the brakes and shifter adjusted. Lubed. Or replaced. 3M oil on the chain and new inner tubes should do it. Of just take it to a bike shop.
This. Or just a bike shop. They shouldn't charge you much at all for a tune up. An make sure you get a helmet. Mine has saved my head more than once.
