Anyone else have problems with batterylife using their M-80XD? It is has been in the single digits at night and teens during day for temperatures. I have been using Rayovac Alkaline batteries which I know have poor batterylife in cold temperatures. Will Lithiums work better in these cameras? I have always used Lithiums in my Reconyx but in the Reconyx there is a setting for lithium batteries. I am looking for any and all recommendations.

Aside from the batterylife the 4 M-80XDs I have take great pictures and the flash range is better then anything I have seen. But without batteries everything good is voided.

I have the original M80 and have had good luck with Ultimate Lithium batteries. 3-4 months life with thousands of pics/videos.

    Coheley,
How many pictures do you get using lithium batteries thoughout the season? I am still used to my Reconyx cameras which I sold to get the Moultries. I used to get 15000 to 25000 pictures on a set of alkaline batteries. I am sure I won't get that many using the Moultries do to the camera only using 8 batteries (the Reconyx used 12 batteries). Thanks for your replies.

The 2 m80 I have have horrible battery life when the temps dip in the mid 30's tried both alk and lith batterys, cams worked well when new but after a year performance just fell off.moultrie repaired one and replaced the other with the xd but after a summer the old m80 has died again and the xd has short timers. cant see adding remote batt and solar panel for the cost it would involve

I had the same issues with the m80's I had, the only cure I could come up with is to replace them with covert black 60s.:D

Your in my area, I have tons of cams 4 coverts and trying to change the rest of the cams this year over to the black60's just picked up a bunch of more ground so I will have to step it up soon.

I'm in the middle of the same transition. I have 4 Black 60's in the field now (3 went out last weekend) and came across a killer deal on three Red 40's that I couldn't pass up a couple of days ago.

I've got an M80 I've had for about a year now. I use rechargeables and get more than 2 months out of them. I'm using rechargeables in all my cams now and I will never go back to using throw-aways.

have you had any voltage problems? re-chargables are 1.2 volts vs alkaline are 1.57 and lith are like 1.8 volts I do see cams instructions manuals suggest using only certain types like i mention. just asking your views on the matter some will say the cam will trigger differently and such.
I tried some re-charge type in my covert 3.0 cams and they seem to work ok with them. I have been buying the rayovac alkaline at wall-e for $12.77 for 36 pack and work really well in my cams, lithium cost too much for all the cams i am running.

I am in central Wisconsin and I had one m80x out from last weekend of gun season till this past weekend and the batteries were not dead but I changed them(little over a month). The m80s dont do that good in the bitter cold and I would give the batteries a month before I would change it.
Not sure if lithiums would be better in the bitter cold. Would like to know also. Thing I DONT like about my m80 is that the battery meter dont read lithiums. 2 WEEKS leading up to peek rut my camera wasnt taking night pictures. I wrote it off as the corn being harvested and lack of movement in that area. Took it inside and sure enough not enough juice to take a night picture. Battery meter read "56%" I got a few summer months out of them 4 lithiums. 2012 m80s the owners manual dont recommend lithiums like the 2011's did.

I also got a covert black 60, but not running it now in these cold temps, but I know it will have better battery life then the m80.

I cant knock the m80's though. They throw off some light at night and awesome pictures and the new ones have motion blur reduction.

Coverts are great cams that you cant go wrong with. My thoughts is the coverts have a faster trigger, better battery life then a M80. But a M80 has better pictures and motion freeze. Cant go wrong with either camera I think. Covert has a better support group and you will getting taken care of faster if a problem ever showed up, but unlikely you would have a issue with a Covert.

Now my 07' Moultrie i40 I change batteries once a year and that thing would take pictures when temps alone got down to -10.

I have not noticed any difference in the performance of any of my cams since making the switch. Of course, you know I have quite a few homebrews so I'm not sure if that would make a difference or not. I have been using them in the M80 and I actually think the performance is better now. I think some of the rechargeables are better than others. I really like the enelopes and the tenergys.
