I just got my d-40 trail cams. Anything I should know when setting them up? Like what kind of delay? Do you just do single pics or 3 pic bursts? Just wondering what everyone that has one how do you have yours set up?
I buy cards that can manage LOTS of pics, especially if you are setting them up over corn. Because of this, I typically setup for burst mode. It takes a second or two for the camera to wake up, but sometimes you will get a good picture when in the burst mode. I typically try to point my cameras north, this helps prevent problems with the sun washing the pic out. Also, because it make take a second for the first pic to trigger, I typically set mine up facing as far down a trail or crossing as possible, this gives you a few seconds longer for the camera to go off. I also use scrapes/corn as often as possible, because if you can get the deer to stay there for a minute or two your chances greatly improve on getting a decent pic. Hope this helps!
Yes that helps alot. I have got 2gb cards for each of them. If I read the directions right those should hold around 1000 pics in the high quality mode. I have been wanting to get a trail cam for a long time. I'm excited to see what I can capture on these. Do most of you guys leave them out all year? Or wait until the end of summer to put them out?
i have one of these, set it up over a bait pile.... slow trigger speed, and you wont get many pics on a game trail too slow. and hard on batterys during cold weather. I also face cam north because of sun pics, and trim small limbs in front of cam they may trigger the cam. I get a lot of deer butt pics,, well if your into that.
I use my D40s over corn too, didnt have very good luck on trails. I have mine set taking 3 pics at a time. When its cold mine just shut off. My 2 gb cards hold around 1800 pics on high quality.
We just got rid of our D40, the one problem we had was the slow trigger speed. I would set it up in burst mode in front of a bait pile, seemed to get the best results that way.
