can't get the flash to work - scored it cheap on eBay (knowing it possibly didn't work)...

    Any common issues?

its in great shape, no apparent damage - takes pictures and the IR and Laser work

    Any help appreciated

Ahhhhhhhhhh... Correct me if I am wrong but the D-40 is a flash model. This one is NOT an infrared if my memory is any good yet.

My experience with Moltrie is that they are great cameras.. when they work. They seem to be very unreliable IMO. I've had two of them. One the motion sensor died after 6 months, the other lost video taking capability and has bad connections at one year.

The one that lost the sensor at 6 months is a D-40 and as far as I know the flash still works. Maybe you could use it as parts? PM me if interested and maybe work something out for very cheap plus shipping.

I wonder if the flash bulb is broken or burnt out from being dropped or something? Moltrie's are also known for having bad connections so take the face off and check the connections that lead to the flash. Maybe even put a little solder on the connections.

Mine had problems with over exposure last season. The pics were entirely white, I threw it out last week not expecting it to work and it came back with 50 perfect pics. I don't understand, guess they just aren't very reliable cameras.

Contact Moultrie. I did when my screen on the front of the camera quit working. I had to pay for shipping to get the camera to them and they sent me a brand new Moultrie I-40. I was impressed with their customer service.

SO... I am away from home in the BOQ on Pax River, and I took the camera with me to play with this week. Got up to make a 0130 head call and had set the camera up on the dresser before I hit the rack and on Auto to see it it was working...works.

Got blinded when I went to answer natures call...must have done something when I reset the batteries for the 10th time? Will continue to play with, maybe I should try and catch the maid coming in to clean the room...

Only cost me $25.00, so I am thrilled if I even get one season out of it.

lol... I set it to Video and left it aimed at the door...probably breaking some law, but curious to see if it finds the movement. I have to pull the SD card and see how it does.

it works... cleaning lady was in at 11:35 and out by 11:41 (I'm pretty clean I guess..)

I had it set to Video Capture, but it only came up on Playback as stills...gotta noodle that one out. I was playing it back over the video out, not USB since I don't have a USB cable with me here. Will figure that out this weekend when I get home.
