Finally start getting some cool temperatures and she decides to piss both the last two Saturdays. Now the forecast is dry but it’s going to be back up 70 this weekend. Hopefully the weather starts to get better for hunting. Really want to get my daughter in the tree with me so see can see a deer in the wild and hopefully one I can shoot. Still don’t know how she will respond. If she is ok planning on having her try with a rifle this year. Then getting her crossbow to hunt with an also a bow to start practicing with v Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
Well if I could offer condolences I would. She keeps doing the same thing out west. Promises of cooler temps but then when it gets close, BAM! They jump back up. Called for rain a few days ago this Thursday and Friday; now no rain. But so far the temps are still cooler. Best of luck to ya. At least your season doesn't end on 10/29!
I feel ya man. The last two Sundays when I've been able to get out it's been like 20-30 mph winds and drizzling. And wouldn't you know it Sunday is suppose to rain again.
Mother nature sucks for hunting weather but I am more than happy to not have to be burning wood to heat the house.
It’s interesting to think what the weather patterns will hold for us in the future. The big blue ball is warming up, whether it be a natural cycle or manmade, it’s warming up. When I was a little boy in the 80’s I remember having to bundle up and wipe frost of the 4 wheeler seats. Now I sweat before I get my gear loaded on the 4 wheeler. Knowing that the timing of the rut isn’t weather related, but daylight related.... could our majic window eventually become a mostly nocturnal affair? Or will the deer adapt if it continues to warm up and evolve with thinner winter coats. Idk im probably talking all kooky dooks. But it does make a guy wonder. I hope that’s the case. Not too severe though cause that wouldn’t be good either. I just wanna have my cake and eat it too. Is that too much to ask? Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
I grew up down south and we thought 70 degrees was good deer hunting weather. Global warming is not a good excuse because you can not punch your tag. Man up and hit the stand. :-)
Haha I punch my tags every year. But I’ve also seen a lot more nocturnal behavior when it’s 70-80 degrees in Illinois in October and November Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
The weather has been weird. Usually it's cold - instead a local farmer planted a late season of corn (took a chance) and now has fresh corn on the cob. 78* by Sunday again.
I don't like this weather either. We've dealt with close to 80 degree temps for most of our season so far here in PA. However, I remind myself of something. The last two years, on my Missouri hunt, we had unseasonably warms temps. But we "HAD" to hunt it. I was paying for the hunt, might as well be in a tree than at the lodge. I punched out last year on a nice buck, and the year before, I very well could have arrowed my personal best. The deer don't go anywhere. They can't go to the AC if its too warm. Get out there and hunt.
Well going to give it a go this Saturday. Temps are not what I would like, high in upper 60's low in the mid 50's, but there is a low pressure moving in over night Sat into Sunday morning. may have to deal with a little rain but better than nothing. Looks like I might be going shopping to get the daughter some rain gear.
Well it was still warm in the mid 60's, but was finally not raining so I got my daughter into the woods up north for the first time bow hunting with me. Didn't have any success, but was able to get her to see something live in the woods other than squirrels and wood peckers. Little after 6:00 and we hear some steps in the leaves directly across from us. After a little while out pops this little bear cub, probably about 30" in length. She was really excited even though it wasn't a deer. Looked around really carefully but there was no momma to be seen. After a few efforts to scare it away with light and noise I had to get down on the ground and walk towards it before it would leave. Not going to make it long if it doesn't get smarter.
Might finally be getting some cooperation for a hunt Saturday. Tonight High pressue is expected to move through causing 1-4" of snow which is predicted to end around 9:00 am, with high temp tomorrow of 37degrees. Plan is to get up north for a somewhat early sit hoping to be in the woods as the snow ends. With my daughter I know I can't sit straight through so will take a lunch then get back in the tree for the afternoon. About the best weather I could hope for as long as the forecast comes true.
I really can't say that the weather had any effect on the deer I hunt on the property. Its been the warmest season I've ever hunted there but also the most productive. They didn't change their pattern in my neck of the woods. That's for sure.
