I have had some encounters with deer opening day and scouting. I shot at a doe this year first time I have shot at a deer with my bow. I had a tree branch sticking out of my stand I thought I moved enough away from it but, I think when I leaned into my shot I went right into it. I hit the branch with my string and it stopped my arrow short of the deer. The doe wasent fased by it so I nocked another arrow and had a bad shot. Ever since than nothing but bad luck. I have chalked a few things up to weather and a lot on me. I have tried every thing I can do to try and get a deer. I am thinking I have bad luck. (I don't believe in luck but starting too.) It has been a lot of let down this year and hart break. I am on private land now and I think my luck will change. Saturday looks like it will be a good day for deer movement I am keeping my fingers crossed. Sorry just had to get this off my chest.
Persistence and patients has worked for me. Mainly the persistence. Try not to put any pressure on yourself and just enjoy it all. That's what I tell myself when it feels like lady luck is against me. Good luck!
I don't feel so bad now. At least I'm not the only one not shooting deer. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Yep it's been real tough season so far for me. Missed one shooting out of a blind, all others have been out of range or not legal to shoot. Haven't seen any since rifle opener, packed my stuff up. May go out again, may not. But for sure taking a break because I started to not enjoy it.
I've missed 2 shooter bucks under 20 yards so far... Can only use those mistakes as learning experiences and move forward! Trust that persistence will pay off.
Same here in Ontario. We hadn't even seen anything until last week. Just try and enjoy the time you are able to get out there and take it as it comes.
I'm right there with you man. Roughest season of my life! Missed a doe opening day (shot over her back) then missed another doe a couple days later (shot under, go figure). Both shots were under 20 yards. Since then, I haven't had a deer in range of my bow and am lucky to see deer haha. I know i'm adding pressure to myself, so like someone else said, talk to yourself and just enjoy the great outdoors! Some folks that would love to be out doing what we're doing are unable to, they would probably take a bad day in the stand over anything else. All the dots will connect when they're suppose to!
Keith hang in their man. If it were easy more people would be bowhunting. I have been hunting for over 30 years now and some seasons I only get to draw my bow on one deer. Unfortunately there are no guarantees but like others said if you hang in their and keep trying it will all come together. Just keep practicing, scouting and learning in the mean time.
