I know this is a very subjective question, but who, in your opinion, is the most dominant athlete of all time, in any sport?

    Edwin Moses (sprinting)?
    Micheal Phelps (swimming)?
    Eddy Merckx (cycling)?
    Wilt Chamberlain (basketball)?
    Tiger Woods (golf)?
    Rod Laver (tennis)?
    Wayne Gretzky (hockey)?

Nobody really sticks out in football. Maybe Jim Brown? But he could also be considered the most dominant lacrosse player.

    Thoughts?

Thorpe was an incredible athlete, but was he ever really dominant in any one sport?

Lance Armstrong would be right up there. Baseball is a tough one, but I'd add Babe Ruth to the list.

Lance didn't accomplish half of what Eddie was able to do

    Phelps is definitely up there.
I think Michael Johnson desrves mentioning.
Tyson in his prime DOMINATED the heavyweight class.
    Jordan
And although he's still fairly young yet, if he keeps it up, Usane Bolt could dominate sprinting for years to come.

Should be some good discussion from this topic.

I know this is a very subjective question, but who, in your opinion, is the most dominant athlete of all time, in any sport?

Edwin Moses (sprinting)? not a sport
    Micheal Phelps (swimming)?barely a sport
    Eddy Merckx (cycling)?not a sport
    Wilt Chamberlain (basketball)?
Tiger Woods (golf)? in his prime, he gets my vote of those listed here
Rod Laver (tennis)?a sport no one cares about
    Wayne Gretzky (hockey)?

Nobody really sticks out in football. Maybe Jim Brown? But he could also be considered the most dominant lacrosse player.

If we are talking international my vote goes to Buvaisar Saitiev. He is a retired Russian wrestler that from the span of 1995 to 2008 won 4 olympic gold medals and 6 world gold medals. He also won numerous other world tournaments and in that time span had only 2 international losses. The guy was unbelievable! It was simple, he stepped on the mat and he won.

I know wrestling isn't the most popular sport, but I would put this guy up there with the best of them in terms of dominance over a long period of time.

I won't argue cycling because, honestly, I don't really care about it. Eddy won what, 5 tour championships? Lance won 7 straight. Thats hard to argue he wasn't dominant.

There is more to cycling than just the Tour de France.

And even Lance never won all jersey's during the TdF. Nor held the yellow jersey the entire race.

I wouldn't exactly call Brandon Slay a fat American. If he wanted to he could probably kill you and me both at the same time.

And yes that is one of his two career international losses.

Are you being serious? No pro wrestler was more dominant than the Hulk. Thats not even up for debate. The Hulk beat the Giant, mano e mano!

Get this fake wrestling crap out of my thread.

Now let's all discuss the most dominant person in a real sport, like NASCAR.

    Haha

No, this is a different guy. The guy in the picture is Rulon Gardner and yes he is a bit on the heavy side.
