Just face it guys, GnR sucked and will always suck. I don't care if they were talented musicians. They wrote horrible songs. I, without a doubt, would rather listen to Nickelback or Theory of a Deadman or Hinder or any of those god awful bands all day, than to listen to Sweet Child of Mine once. And Welcome to the Jungle? It makes me want to run head first into a one of Christine's weird swords.
I thought you were better than that... Gin Blossoms were terrible. What's with all the b52 mentions? Terrible, yes... but they weren't rock music... Straight pop.
Because they are so bad that they transcend all musical planes with their badness. It's like ear rape. My roommate waay back when used to play the B 52's all the time. That she still walks the earth is testament that I have oodles of self-control (and was too cheap to pay the entire rent).
i was a fan back in the day....I can think of probably 10 songs of there's I liked better than the two you mentioned...I never cared much for Welcome to the Jungle Some which come to mind... Rocket Queen Patience Used to love her Civil war Estranged It's so Easy November Rain Paradise City One in a million
Just saw Rush on the 4th of July at Summerfest. I was never a die hard fan, but liked their music. Let me tell you, these guys rocked!! Seriously! They played for 3 hours, minus one 20 minute break. The sound was incredible, and they are extremely talented musicians. I think Getty's voice may not be what it use to be, but as far as guitar playing and the drums......they shred!! Whaaat? Okay, picture this: You just get off work from an 9 hour shift at a mega credit card company where you have to listen to unhappy people on the phone all day. You have to wear heels, nylons and a skirt while at work.. "because it makes you feel professional" but really it's just uncomfortable. You skip across the parking lot to your 1979 Lincoln Continental Town Car, get in, fire her up and slide in the Jethro Tull cassette in to that fine Ford tape deck. The timing of the music is just right so that when you get to the toll booth Locomotive Breath is really getting going. You treat the toll booth like it's the start of a race that you have to pay 40 cents to enter. The gate goes up, the pedal to goes to the floor and you put all 402 cubic inches of displacement to work. As you fly down the interstate you 'sing' along at the top of your lungs to lyrics that don't really make sense but you don't care. The song is nearly at the end when you exit the interstate on a very tight cloverleaf that is marked 35 mph... but you always take it fast enough that the tires howl and screech but never quite break loose. The guy who stands at the exit toll booth and tries to intimidate people into paying and not just fake the motion of tossing money in always smiles and shakes his head as you pull up. Tires are smoking, engine is heaving and I'm still 'singing'. It's the best part of my day. Then I get home and my roommate is playing the B-52s. I will always have a soft spot for Locomotive Breath. :D
You are starting to scare me. Thank God I don't think Hinder is god awful otherwise I would agree with you a 100%. Shoot me now before I get the urge to buy me some Toms. Tim
They absolutely did not write horrible songs. And using SCOM and Welcome to the Jungle to back your argument is weak, son.
I would also like to say that I feel that Nickelback gets too much of the hate for today's "rock" music. I would listen to Nickelback over My Chemical Romance and Hinder. Those are just 2 god awful bands.
I didn't despise Nirvana, but they were very meh. I do despise how they are credited for the start of grunge though.
I really liked Nirvana. I was a freshman in college when they were beginning to become known nationally. I would imagine i'm one of the very few here to actually have seen them in concert. It was one of the best concerts i've seen without a doubt. They brought a certain energy to a show that was unlike any band i've seen and the crowd response was incredible.
I like Nirvana...but they burn out easy. Same as Skynyrd. Jusy not enough in the catalog. Why the Gin Blossum/Goo Goo Dolls hate? Sent from my Samsung Galaxy s4
modern day skynyrd is pathetic....theres like one guy left and yet they still call themselves skynryd... im with ya on the gin blossoms....
Well I wasnt including any of the new Skynyrd albums. Just the three old ones. They are great, but theres only so many times you can listen to Free Bird and Simple Man. I have no doubt Skynyrd may have become one of the greatest bands in the history of rock if they would have been able to release a few more albums. Sent from my Samsung Galaxy s4
