The number one reason most people who shoot mechanical heads say it is because it "flies like a field point ". Number two reason is they want a 3 inch cut for a blood trail... because they can not hit the boiler room and trailing the guts is easier. Just what they tell at the range.
I have to to agree with this on all counts. I have found solids to group the best at longer distances compared to many other fixed blade heads. I can say the same for slick Trick mags also. As for the price, I agree with with the above also. They are out of line with the increase. When the first came out they were 89 for three and you could get them cheaper. Now at 130 they gone a little to far. Luckily I have about 4 dozen so I have no plans on buying anyone anytime soon. And even if I needed to i probably won't buy them out of principle.
Same here. At one point I was finding them for under $70. When they went to $100. That was my stopping point. Now with the extra price jump, I'm done with them. Just wish I stocked piled some like you when they were cheaper! They really do shine out past 40 yards!
Wac'em 3 blade have been very accurate for me. I've shot them out to 80yrds with no problem. Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
What kind of broadhead group do you guys quantify as "good" ? Do you follow the same 1 inch diameter per 10 yards rule of thumb that most of us go by with field tips? Myself, I use a 6-8 inch vital zone diameter for all distances when evaluating broadheads. Of course, a smaller group is always better if it can be achieved. To answer the thread question, Slick Trick Standard has always flown the best for me followed very closely by the Wasp Drone. Sent from my VS500 using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
Most forgiving I've shot (slightly out of tune bow) are Wac'ems. With a tuned bow, most are pretty accurate.
I have heard great things about Iron Will Broadheads. I am looking into them for my elk hunt. For a lot cheaper though, I have had good luck with G5 Strikers. Sent from my LGLS992 using Tapatalk
I shoot for at least 3" groups at all distances. It takes a lot of practice!!! But I enjoy shooting. I usually don't move back in distance till I can get my groups down to 3". Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
Did you conduct this survey? That's like me saying The number one reason most people who shoot fix blades is because they can not hit the boiler room and need extra penetration for shoulder hits
I like Wasp Drones. They fly great for me. They are also reasonably priced at around $30 with two sets of replacement blades. Sent from my HTC One_M8 using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
I'm am in the process of testing out several heads myself. Shooting 2 identical setup Elites at 70# , 27.5" draw. So far the shuttle t lok, qad exodus, muzzy trocar hybrid, and slick trick viper trick are all flying terrific, as well as a few mechanical heads I have. Get your hands on a bunch and see what your bow likes. Especially for the guys who dont or cant tune their own bows, like myself, it's nice to see what my bow likes and doesn't like. Trust your own test results with your own setup. Good luck!
Wac'ems are the way to go, they are inexpensive, you get 4 heads for $35 bucks. They are tough as nails, and I have never had any difference between them and field points. Never had to tune my bow or anything like that. and you get a pass through every dang time.
If you're concerned about low KE, there are a couple of mechanicals by NAP that you could look at. Killzone low KE and NAP Slingblade. Both work with lower KE bows. My setup last year wasn't much different from yours (28" DL and 55# DW) and i shot the regular killzones just fine.
I shot a cow elk w/ the Strikers @ 28yds - a blade hit rib on entry on a very slight quarter-to shot and bent the blad 90* over; then the arrow sheered hard to the offside hip. She died quick and I found her, but it was just a rib. Steel's kind of soft. But they are razor sharp and fly like darts.
Ramcat Diamondback & Trophy Taker Shuttle-T were the only fixed blades to group within a 1/4" in bowhunting.com's recent accuracy test at 20 yards. 3 arrows and that distance is a short sample size, but nonetheless less impressive. However, that test does not really tell if they fly the same as field tips. Although, I have heard the Ramcats have that reputation. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
Slick Tricks for me also. Magnums or standard 125 gns out of my setup are deadly accurate blow right through bone with pass throughs every time I think my bow is about 62# maxed out with velocity 340s but i also can shoot 300s out of my bow to. Hands down the best fixed blade is slick trick imo Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk
