Obviously, one of the biggest advantages to shooting mechanical broadheads is their decreased surface area and decreased resistance, theoretically leading to a more accurate shot. The more a broadhead shoots like a field tip, the easier it is for the shooter. It's nice when you can trust your broadhead will hit your target just like the field tip. I'd like to go mechanical, but based on my current setup (27" dl, 59# dw, Easton Carbon Raider 340s) I don't think I'd produce enough KE for them to work effectively. I don't want to risk it. What are the most accurate fixed broadheads you have used? Which broadheads seem to fly the most similar to a field tip? Keep in mind I'm shooting 100gr heads and would like to sacrifice as little penetration power as possible. But without any accuracy, what does penetration matter. Thanks for the help!!
I started bowhunting with a similar set up. I used Slick Trick Magnums with great success. Still use them now even though my current set up could use mechanicals. Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
Slick Tricks fly fantastic. I'm shooting them out to 60+ right now and keeping them in a nice tight group. I've also been impressed with the Ramcats this year... they fly great as well!! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Magnus Stingers and Trophy Taker Shuttle T's have been the best flying heads I have shot. Exodus and Ramcats are also known to be good flying heads with a well tuned setup.
I haven't shot either but I also read that Exodus are one of if not the most accurate fixed head; with Ramcats being right there. I found Montecs to be dead on accurate. For me, Shuttle Ts were a bit more accurate than Slicks...with the caveat that Shuttle Ts were the only broadhead out of the 8 or so I tested a few years ago that did not fly exactly to point of aim. They shot consistently high and right. Like 5-6" to the 2 o'clock position at 40 yards. But they grouped very tight. Everything else was right on.
Most use mechanical heads to compensate for poor shaft selection / spine or bow tune. Most archers do not even check FOC. I bare shaft tune. Now for your question I use Magnus Snuffers SS 125 gn. I line the blades up with the fletching for a "tickle "on pass through. I can sharpen them on 6000 grit wet / dry sandpaper with mineral oil. Sharp is an understatement. I use this bh on my recurve, compound and crossbow. It comes with a warranty so when you pass through and hit a rock you can send it in for a new one.
Whoa Arkyinks that is assumption that I have to retort about people that shoot mechanicals, can't take it from a guy that lines up the fletchings with the broad head and thinks it makes a difference.
Out of the dozen fixed Heads I have tryed over the years, the most accurate was Solid broadheads. But just noticed they raised there price this year to $120 for a 3 pack. I won't be buying them again for that kind of money. I also love Slick tricks for the price.
