Anybody heard anything good/ bad about the mossberg MVP 223? Looking to pick up a rifle for varmints and this one is really appealing to me. Most reviews say very good things about it. I would love an AR but that would mean spending a 1000+ and I feel I would burn through way to much ammo. I already have a tacted out ruger 10/22 for that. Any thoughts and opinion are encouraged. Or any other rifle/caliber combos as well.

No direct experience with this gun. What I can tell you is that if yotes are your intended target, this gun would get old from carrying awfully quick. Usually your covering a lot of ground in 20-30 minute sets when calling dogs and can do several miles in a night. I prefer a much lighter rifle that can take a beating and still look/function decent. The stainless/synthetic Savage's are awfully nice and come with the accustock and accutrigger for a fantastic price, if I would looking for a yote specific bolt gun that I was going to actually carry and abuse that would be it.

If you're looking for the .223 caliber, get an AR. I don't know anyone who regrets getting one.

I don't have an experience with the Mossberg MVP but we have a Ruger American Rifle. It's a budget bolt-action rifle and a darn fine one. Good adjustable trigger. Lightweight stock. I don't think it comes in .223 but it comes in many other coyote crushing calibers.

When you get a rifle.... whichever one you get..... please kill an extra coyote for me!

You can build your own ar for a lot less then 1000 but I prefer bolt guns myself. Take a look at the tikkas

I know...I was kidding...I bought it because I did not want an ar...the weight is not an issue for me especially with a sling...and its not that much heavier than an ar....to each his own but I can tell you its an excellent and unbelievably accurate rifle for the price....I have a savage bolt 223 as well...great entry level predator gun but the MVP taking ar mags is really a plus in the field...it was rated rifle of the year in xtreme predator magazine for a reason...it has two stock options which are the predator version like mine (see pic above)...thicker forend with a flat bottom and molded grip...the other is a regular rifle stock...so that depends on your preference....there are plenty of fine choices but if you do buy the MVP I can assure you you wont be disappointed

I have a Tikka T3 Lite in .22-250. It is absolutely my favorite gun to shoot and wouldn't trade it for any other gun. The bolt slides smoothly and trigger pull is crisp. I know lots of people like American made guns, but I think European company's top them. Tikka is made in Finland by the way.

I will second the Savage suggestion. I will only buy savage rifles from now on, I have never had a more accurate rifle out of the box. I would love to hunt with an AR but that's not legal in Pa so bolt action is the way to go here.
