Which do you prefer to hunt? Myself I like to hunt evenings. I see alot more deer then I have in the morning of course I'm not out there as much in the morning so sightings would be less.Deer seem to be more calm and less atentive in the evening, grazing along on there way to there main feeding area.
last season evening were much more active, I don't think I saw a single deer during my morning sit, in fact I've only taken one deer during a morning sit ever... but for some reason I still go out even though its historically been very unproductive for me... :D
My schedule allows for more morning hunts, yet I've always had a much higher success rate in the evenings. I can only think of 3 deer I've ever killed in the morning, bow or gun. Thats over 23 years of hunting, kinda hard to get out of bed with that kind of "success". :D
I see and shoot more in the evenings. Morning hunts are hit or miss by me if I miss one I don't really care.
See and have more kills in the morning...much to do with being in some decent sized woods. If I had to pick, I'd choose mornings...which is good as I only get in a couple afternoon sits a year with having young kids. ...but I'd go anytime I could - doesn't make much difference to me.
i like mornings mostly because of the scenery, i like to watch the animals "wake" up and see the sunrise, and i have also killed more and bigger deer in the mornings than evenings, jmo
Well I like both, but being a working stiff mornings are out except for weekends. I do much more hunting in the evenings. Success is probably equal (ratio-wise). The last 2 bucks I've taken were minutes after first light.
Mostly evenings. However this past season I did a lot of 3/4 day sits and the 11-2 hours were as productive with sightings as the evening. Makes me wonder how many deer pass bye when I'm not around, probably all of them
I like the evenings. I like to be rested when I hunt so I can stay alert and not be miserable. I like easing in aroud 10-11 or so and hunting the remainder of the day. That being said, I was forced to hunt a lot of mornings that last year and had a great time doing so.
I was never much of a morning hunter until I started hunting the university property. You have to get there un-godly early to draw for hunting areas (and it's an hour drive to get there) so I was pretty much forced to hunt the mornings. I did notice that I saw more deer activity in the morning than the evenings. (then again some areas we were only allowed to hunt until 11am so those areas were probably crawling with deer in the evening.)
I like hunting mornings, but work limits the amount of times I get to do so. I'm not sure but I think my success ratio is a little higher during the mornings. It's something I've never really tracked accurately.
Late morning to early afternoon seem to be my most productive times say 9-2 but to be honest it really depends on the time of season and why I've decided to hunt a particular stand and where that stand is (bedding area, travel corridor, food source, etc.). I put a lot of time and thought into my stand locations. Dan
I like mornings and noon sits. I have not shot many deer int he evening and don't like to really. Blood trailing can be challenging enough without darkness to overcome. I love watching the woods come alive in the mornings and don't feel the rush of fading light pushing on me and my decision making process. Now, Noon sits are crazy - the deer come alive around lunch time and everybody is at the truck......
Well, when the season kicks off here it's getting dark at about 1130pm and light again at about 0400. It's near impossible to hunt both unless you become nocturnal so I tend to hunt evenings more just because I'm not a morning person.
