I would like some opinions on which time deer hunting is the best during the day before the rut. It seems to me that most activity is late afternoon.
I'm an afternoon hunter. I find it easier to get into my spot around 3:00pm and wait because the deer pass through the area around 6:30pm to get to some food. I am always scared of spooking them in the morning and jinxing my spot for weeks. Depends on your area though. Do some scouting.
I dont really believe there is a better time... I hunt both morning and evening, just not the same stand. I jump deer no more morning hunting than i do evening. I dont hunt bedding areas for that reason. Try travel routes, bedding to food source. Once rut activity picks up u can b a little more bold with stand placement. My .02
I hunt both as well, sometimes all day. I personally love the morning hunts the best. It can be a little harder to find your stand in the dark, but there is just something about the morning i just love. i have also harvested most of my deer in the morning. Yet that doesn't make a difference when the rut is on. Those big bucks are full throttle all day and all night
me personally, i've never gotten any action in the morning...only action was bump'n deer...i like evening hunts a lot better...all my deer kills is in the evening...get in my stand around 2-3pm and sit till it's prime time...
Depends on my mindset and the hunting situation. If I am hard at it, I go morning stay late, and afternoon going in early... If I want to just have an enjoyable weekend I'll go out friday night, sleep in, watch football all day, and head for the stand that afternoon, only to repeat the process when I climb down sat afternoon...
My rut hunts are always dark to dark. I've seen activity at all times of the day. You can't know about activity if you're not on stand. One of the biggest bucks I've ever seen (Alberta) came past me at 11: 55AM.
I agree. For the most part, I see more deer in the afternoon. But, I killed the majority of my big bucks in the mornings.
For me, I have to be somewhat more precise in my set-ups during morning hunts in order to be succesful. Therefore morning hunts for me are always more difficult.
For me it depends on stand location to prevent spooking deer. If I can enter it through the timber than morning hunts are good. If I have to enter through a field than evening hunts are better.
