i've had sucess with both but being from the south our deer are totally different than everywhere else they may not be as big as the monsters in the mid-west but they are really intelligent and keen sense of thier surroundings they are hard animals to hunt and i appreciate that what time of day you are hunting is a big key in the south what has worked for you?
I have had more luck in the afternoon than the early morning. But I can also say that I have killed more deer between 9am and 12pm than the early morning. I would have to say it depends on the time of the year for me. I really like to be on stand after that 9am time when times are a little slow.
Home state, the evenings have been more productive, out of state thus far I'd say the mornings have treated me better.
For me, the evenings by far (3pm or so till dark) in Sept. first part of Oct. and Dec. During late Oct. thru Nov. mornings are great up till around 12 or 1pm ( especially from 9am-1pm). I rarely see much movement from 1 till about 3:30 or so. The movement picks back up around 3:30 and later.
Almost 50/50 but I gotta lean towards evenings being a tad bit better for me. It really depends on stand location If you ask me.
Love mornings. I seem to see more mature buck movement the first hour of daylight and love the fact that you have all day to recover the animal.
I think I killed all but one of my GUN kills in the morning, however, bowhunting, only about 4 of them were morning, the rest were all evening. Though, I probably hunted 30% more often in the evening, the I've killed 6-7 eveing deer for every morning kill I had.
I have got most of mine after 10 am because I really dont like getting out of bed early in the morning when it is cold. LOL!!!
