It is taking forever to get the morel season going here. We found these this weekend but I was expecting 5 times this. Some of the best trees havent even produced yet. It was pretty fun watching my kids get excited every time they found one.
I had my first morel this past weekend. One was done up in corn meal and another in beer batter...tasty! I have always been reluctant because I don't like the taste or texture of mushrooms. I would say I could eat morels "without lookin up a sayin hello".
I guess I need to have someone cook some up for me like this then. I'm like you and don't like the taste of texture of mushrooms, but I'm told I need to try morels cooked right before I judge.
I tried them after putting a few beers down from watching the hawks game so that may have played a part in the appeal....plus I was starving. Still worth a try. I feel they would taste better if I were into the actual hunting/gathering because I like to believe the deer I shoot taste much better than any other venison. There's no better seasoning than "accomplishment".
Haha beer and a empty stomach make a lot of things taste good. I agree about the hunting making it taste better too.
Welcome to Spring! But, going by the looks of your haul it's going to be a short season where everything's up at once. Had the aame scenario last year here. Get 'em while you can.
We had hoped to find some while down in Ohio this past weekend but the reports were showing that they had already come and gone. Didn't find a single one.....
