Great thread! I've found a couple over the years but never in any respectable amounts. I always say I'm going looking for them but end up just looking for deer sign and anything else that seems to distract me from being successful.

Ive never really hunted for them before but it sounds like it could be another thing to have fun and get out in the woods for. I dont really like mushrooms so ill probably just sell them like Crick does if i can and put some extra money in my pocket for hunting supplies.

These arent your normal mushrooms :). Taste is completely different. If you find some I highly suggest frying them in some lard and giving it a shot, I have a feeling you wont regret it.

Ill give it shot for sure, I will always try something at least once. If i find some i might have to find someone to cook them up for me the first time to try them so i get the best taste possible.

So if anyone wants to help me out ill bring the mushrooms (if i find them) and we can have a cook out :tu:

I LOVE morels! I have some good spots on our land in WV that I find them year after year. Never found a single one here on my land in VA. I know there are probably some around, but boy it gets discouraging when you never find one. We've had real warm temps this week and got some rain today...should be right.

Think I found them all. Not sure about 5 though, doing this on my phone. Put the numbers below each one. Can't wait until next Thursday

Think Im goin to hit my early spot again tomorrow. Soil temps weren't affected much by the cold snap, should be a few more up. Really want to see if te one I found earlier survived the brief freeze and if it grew any.

Soil temps nearing 50 all the way up to Peoria. Next weekend should be pretty good around here. Another near 80 day tomorrow followed by rain and 60's all week, just can't ask for a better set up.

Yeah, I went out again yesterday. Really thought I'd find at least 10, ended up picking the same one from Thursday. Didn't see anything else. Yesterday's near 80 degrees and the upcoming rain should have them going by the weekend.

Here's the anticipated 5 day rain totals. Locally 3-4"+ amounts, can usually count on at least half of what it says this far out, but even 1-2" would be very good for both areas affected by last years drought and the shrooms.
