Mike and I went out to our lease for the last time before the season starts to finish hanging/trimming stands and pull cards on the cameras. This is our last check of things until about mid October so I'm hoping these guys stick around! So you may remember this guy from earlier in the summer. He ended up finishing out pretty nicely and should go in the 150 range. He's just a stud of a deer - huge head and huge neck for mid-August. I'm tenatively calling him "The Bull". He was fairly active this summer so I'm just hoping he sticks around once the velvet comes off. Early July Mid July Mid August Mid August (on the right) The next buck is a deer we call Strahan. I had more pics of this deer last year than just about any other deer. He was a big 2 year old and really blew up this year. I'm figuring he'll push 140 this year even with his weak brows. The last buck is a deer we call Goldberg. We had a bunch of pictures of him last year, but none of them were in daylight and we never saw him. I"m figuring he's 5 this year and now that his rack is whole he'll push into the 160's for sure. I just hope he moves during the daylight this year. He's in the background behind the fallen tree and The Bull is over on the left. The last buck is a stud 2 year old that we're hoping makes it another year or two. We saw this deer once last year and I said the same thing - he's going to be a giant someday. The mass on this deer is ridiculous.
that last pic is rediculous, and those are some great deer cant wait to see u put em down on bowhunt or die good luck!
Very nice. Do you guys have deer picked out already to be taken off the lease this year? How many management bucks do you guys plan to harvest and mature shooters?
Our plan is the same it is every year - shoot the first buck that makes you happy. We're only on 100 acres here, so it's not like we have much of a "management" plan for shooting mature deer, management deer, etc. IMO you really only see that stuff on heavily managed large farms, and typically only with a rifle. Practicing any sort of real management on that small of a property when you're hunting weekends only is about impossible. Our only stipulation is one buck per hunter, and the massive 2 year old is off limits. And if it were as easy as picking out which deer we wanted to shoot and then shooting them, I'd have a lot more big deer on my walls.
Those G3s on Bull sure grew out! Best of luck chasing them. Can't wait to get out to our properties here in less than 2 weeks. Those darn cameras have been out there since mid-July without being checked. Hopefully, they are still there!
Great looking bucks for sure. Looks like it could be a good year for you all. Sorry to hear of your camera being stolen. Blessings........Pastorjim
