So did we ever define evolution? Or all those things lumped together under one umbrella in order to get people to accept evolution as fact, when they are clearly quite different?

I am spot on with Muzzy on this one. I have a Biology degree, I agree with Hooker that science can be proven in many cases, but in some I feel it def. falls short. Throughout all of my college classes, as well as high school, I seemed to always be searching for more answers when given explanations on evolution and the creation of universe (example Big Bang). Professors would drill in mine and other students heads the "facts" that prove these ideologies.
When it boils down to it evolution, creationism, and the beginning of the universe all come to some dead end and cannot be definitely proven. So science puts its faith in gas, Christians put there faith in a divine being, God. I decided to put my faith in God. I've learned, on my short time on this earth, when you put your faith in gas you can end up in one stinky situation or even an explosion.
So I'll take my chances with God.

    Another good post.

    I like this quote:
Blaise Pascal - “Faith is different from proof; the latter is human, the former is a gift from God.”

I'm not trying to change any of you guy's beliefs. I don't care what you believe. I'm just trying to clear up a few misconceptions of evolution.

    Hook,

Does your belief in evolution mean there isn't a creator?

Are you asking for my beliefs, or are you asking if religion and evolution can co-exist?

They could. One would have to disregard a lot of the Bible, but I know several people that believe in evolution and God. They believe that God set evolution in motion.

So, sure, I guess. People can fit religion into almost anything.

And they create gods from their own belief systems. Wow! There is a thread for another day.

I thought we all did quite well muddling through this one in a civil manner.

I see someone beat me to it but Global warming/climate change to me is the same as my beleif in God: FAITH.

In my lifetime our lakes have lost two weeks of being ice covered. So another reason to me manikind is having impact on warming.

I'm an observant Catholic who accepts evolution. One of the popes, can't remember which one, said there's no conflict between the Bible and evolution.

I was raised Shinto so it was easy for me to accept the Catholic approach with spirits, souls, prayers to the dead etc. I don't believe that God messes around in your everyday life though. It's pretty hard to say God healed someone, when somebody else is getting run over by a bus or dieing in a fire, etc.

We do know though, that Something has always been here.

I don't think those are precursors to evolution as much as it is evolution itself. This thread also derailed much from when I checked it weeks ago = )

Macroevolution is happening right now. Scientists are finding species that have evolved so much from their predecessors that, well, they're making them a new species. Also take for example polydactyl people, thats above the micro level. Thats a genetic mutation that we could breed into our human race if it were more desirable.

How does the change in lake ice provide any evidence to you that mankind had any impact?
