Does/Has anyone on here have experience making their own? I'm just curious. I was thinking about it the other day. Not making it...Just thinking about what it takes to make it. lol. I was wondering just how "Dangerous" it could be. Are they serious about, if you screw it up, you could go blind, die...tec..???
I hear copper is a good way to start...lol As far as the radiator thing, I was thinking about an Ice to Air Intercooler... Thoughts?
Ohh good idea! Have you thought about this before? I wouldn't sell it anyhow. I'm a friendly drunk. lol.
Not just based on what you've "heard" you sure do live in the right state for it! I couldn't tell you how many we passed when we traveled to KY this past season. :D (Distilleries)
Can i get some clarity here.... Is there a differance between "Whiskey" and "Moonshine" to you guys? Where im from, Moonshine is just homemade whiskey that wasnt alowed to be sold to the public, so they made it and ran it at night...?
Your correct. Just a "little" more potent then that stuff you see on the shelves. Not to add 100% smoother.
Most stuff on the shelf is around 80-100 proof...correct? And Moonshine has to be at least 114 i think...at least thats what i get from Wikipedia......
i call it bathtub brew! =-) neighbor of my gave me some and watch out! i think i took two sips of it one night and couldnt get up the next day! had some in TN about 10yrs ago and it was great!
If I remember correctly, you're from Franklin County, right? "From what I've heard" its the place to go for Moonshine in Virginia
It's legal to make here in PA in small quantities as long as it's for your own personal consumption. I won't publicly say who, but It's been going on around me for years:0) I'm not sure where you're getting your info., but the only real homemade still I know of does not include a copper line or any refrigeration. The moonshine I'm familiar with comes out about 170 Proof. The trick is finding the right mash and what flavor you like. A good way to filter is to use charcoal. You can go to any pet store and buy a filtration unit for fish that is safe or simply use the charcoal. Without proper filtration you'll get a kerosene smell. I refer to the taste as a combination of kerosene and tequilla... very nasty. Obvious there is a risk working w/ flamables... but death? Highly unlikely. You're more likely to burn down your shed, house, garage; but even that isn't likely. Hope this helps.
Ah yes, I knew it was you or Buckmaster.. couldn't remember which one! But I know how things go down there.. Big Bucks and Shine
I've only tried one batch of it before....it was some smooth stuff compared to store bought liquor, and it sure did get my head spinning before the night was over.
Grizz, I have to admit, I never pegged you for a moonshine aficionado I always thought it would be fun to try, but that's as far as I have got. From what I have read, the going blind stories came around b/c people were using radiators that had not been cleaned out and were therefore ingesting a significant amount of radiator fluid. So, that is why I don't buy any either. Too risky if some boob made a tainted batch.
What I was referring to was the type of still. A traditional still is the only thing I've seen used. I wasn't saying you can't use the copper wire or refrigeration. I was simply stating the method I've seen doesn't use them. Poor choice of wording I guess. And I chose the wording "real homemade still" because I have met people that claim they have a homemade still. When it's simply something they purchased. As far as your first statement, "No this want help at all. LOL" you have to relax. Someone asked for an opinion and I gave mine.
