We're currently in the process of looking at different schools for our son, who will be in Kindergarten next year. One of them is a Montessori school for kids age 4-12.

Does anyone here have any experience with a Montessori school? Experiences? Recommend it?

Yes, we had then 4 year old last year in a Montessori school. It was great for him to learn what school was all about. It also was a good socialization for him. Its not cheap but worth it imo.

This particular one is actually free through the public school systems, in Eau Claire. We're in the Chippewa Falls School district, but I believe this school serves the Chippewa Valley. It would be a bit of a drive from home, but Jill works in Eau Claire anyways.

I should also add, even though its a public school, you have to apply to get in.

Did you you move your son/daughter to a "regular" school after that? If so, why?

The other two schools we're looking at are a local public elementary school and the Catholic School system. I attended the Catholic schools for 12 years, so I know them pretty well. I'm just intrigued by the Montessari system.

My personal opinion. I put this in the preference category because I have nothing bad to say about the Montessori method.

The Montessori method is awesome for a starter system (pre-kindergarden). It really helped our child learn to figure stuff out on his own. It helped a lot with working with others and learn how to care for others. So from that perspective it's great.

I personally don't believe it's the best overall method for the regular school years. We prefer the traditional school structure from kindergarten on.

But I would not rip anyone for putting their child in one post kindergarten.

For your kids? Or for all kids? I realize its an opinion and just curious.

Personally, from my research, it believe it may be the best system for some kids, but not all. Watching my son develop and how he learns, I can see that he learns a lot faster and better hands on. I personally struggled with the "regular" school system growing up. Sitting in a desk, watching a teacher at the front of the room talk to us was not easy for me. I hated school, because it was boring. I have a feeling that I would have enjoyed school a lot more and benefited more from a Montessori system.

I care deeply about my kids' educations and am doing as much research as I can about the schools in the area. I don't want to take the easy route and just send him to the closest school, 3 minutes from home. We have to tour the public school and the Montessori school yet. Once we do that we're going to decide which is the best for our kids' educations. Even if that school is almost 20 miles from home.

Another thing I found interesting is that this school scores higher than any of the public schools in our district on the state tests. Its also at the top of the list in the EC school district.

I can completely understand and agree. If you feel your child would thrive in that type of setting better more power to you. I say go for it. You could always change schools right?

The Montessori school we went to was a privately owned school. The things that did turn me off about the place I bet would be different in a public school. In fact, I know they would be.
