I've been trying to broadhead tune and I've got them close, but not close enough to where I feel that I can shoot my field tips and broadheads together. I bumped my draw weight up to 65 and my broadheads are still flying about 2-3" to the left of my field tips. It did bring them in some but not completely. Even though they aren't flying with my field tips, the 100 grain G5s are still grouping GREAT. Another option I have is 6 Rage 2-blades that I have. So my question is what would YOU do? Tweak your sights a tad bit and shoot the G5s or would you leave it sighted for field tips and shoot the Rages? I just ran my set up through a calculator online, and it's showing that I'm shooting at 290+ FPS and hitting with 70#s of KE.
Im shooting Gold Tip Expeditions 5575 at 65# and 29" draw with 100 gr. heads. I believe they are 27.5".
Hitting to the left is a stiff spine reaction. You could also try a heavier tip since you already upped your draw weight.
You are a tweener, you are right on the edge according to their chart IMO. I would try a 125 grain head or crank your bow up. An arrow to the left is to stiff I believe. Remember each bow shoots an arrow different, their charrts a good starting point.. What type of bow are you shooting? My Ross goes pretty close with the charts, my Elite I always go stiffer.
GMMAT: I worked on it for a week trying to get my G5s to impact with my field tips. At the start they were probably 6" low and left. I then bumped my draw weight up from 54# and tweaked my rest a bit. After that my arrows were as mentioned, about 2-3" to the left. I tried everything that you guys told me and I could not get them to impact with my field tips. Any other ideas to tune the combo so that they will shoot the G5s optimally?
I agree with Germ, bz_711 and (egads!) GMMAT. I'd try a heavier tip first, then different arrows. Also, try changing your grip on the bow a bit. I can consistently torque my bow enough to get great groups... off to one side when shooting broadheads. :/ I've heard something about aligning your G5 broadheads with your fletch too. ????
I'm shooting a 2008 Reflex Charger. Not sure if you are familiar with it. "Reflex Charger The Charger is Reflex's flagship bow and happens to be the fastest bow Reflex has ever released at 320 ft/sec IBO. The Charger is a bit unusual in that it uses a straight riser without a torsion bar around the wooden handle grip. The torsion bar has become more common on modern compounds with increasingly short brace heights. The Charger comes in 6.25" in brace height"
Man Ill be honest with ya, I don't think I could pull 70 comfortably enough to hunt with it there. I can pull it but Im not sure as to how many times, lol.
Do you want a few 125gr heads to try? I could send you some Snuffers. If they fly well you could get the G5s in 125gr and forget about Rage or just keep the Snuffers and shoot them. I'll send 3 freebies if you want them. PM is broke so e-mail me at [email protected]
Holy lord look at those agressive cams, LOL Get a new bow Best advice I can give you. Agressive cams bows are fun to shoot, but a pain to tune and shoot BH. This is just how I feel. 6.25 BH blows also IMO, it's just a tough bow to tune, my elite was the exact same way. What type of rest do you have?
I shot it through a paper rig I made yesterday and I got a tail high tear. I tried bumping my rest up but it didn't fix it. I kept moving the rest enough that the arrow was obviously angled on the rest. The next move would be to move the nock point down, right? I've never done this myself and so I actually went to Gander Mt. yesterday to double check it and was going to have them move the nock point for me, well there was nobody working in archery. Unforunately I don't really know of any good pro shops around here.
I was serious about the new bow, my guess is now it's not your arrow, it's your bow. To shoot a 6.25 BH bow with the aggressive cams you have is extremely hard. I have shot every type of bow, I can tell you unless it has a 7.5 BH and is at least 34'' I do not give it a second look anymore. IMO the issues is the bow, and you are torqing it a bit. Good call Christine
