I have a mathews monster 6.0 and ive been looking at selling it and buying a z7. What are your thoughts on this decision? My decision will be made on your thoughts. Im 16 and i hunt ALOT (whitetails). I upgraded bows from a cheap redhead to a new monster 6.0 and im not sure that this bow is the greatest for hunting and such. I dont want to have to buy a new bow for a long time and the one i decide on is going to have to last a long time so i wana pick the best of the two. Im going to be shooting 70lbs on both at 28in. I can sell my Monster right now bare for 500 or so. Thanks for the help!!

    Have you shot the z7?

I've shot the z7, the monster 6 and the monster 7. I didn't like the 6.0, seemed almost violent after the shot and was very loud. The 7.0 was better, but imho still too loud for a hunting bow. Granted, it had no string suppressors.

The z7 has a smooth draw, solid back wall and shoots wonderful. You don't need the speed that the monster gives out for hunting purposes. The z7 is plenty quick.

That being said, don't just limit yourself to the z7, there are many great bows out there. Shoot everything you can and pick the one you like best. If it's a mathews, great. If it's not, that's fine too.

    z7

I have owned both the maxxis 31 and z7......I still have the z7. Best bow mathews has put out in years!!!! Before the Z7 I was a Bowtech guy.

Can't go wrong with the Z7 or the Maxxis, both are fine bows. Get the one most comfortable to YOU.

I just went yesterday and shot a few new bows from Bowtech, Hoyt, Elite, PSE and Mathews and I bought the Z7, super smooth easy draw and quiet.

Ive shot both the Z7 and M7. The longer ATA and speed of the M7 won me over. They both drew about the same to me, the solo cam was a tad smoother when nearing the peak. The M7 had a better back wall IMO, most likely due to the dual cams. Not to mention my local shop was going out of business so I got it for well below sale price.

If I were buying a Mathews, it'd be between a Z7 and a Monster 7.0. Spec wise the M 7.0 is up my alley, but damn it's ugly.:)

In the past few seasons, I've got progressively less aggressive on draw cycle and slower on the fps. Deer have died at an increasing rate. Double lung shots are criminal at any speed. You aren't gonna lose that much, shoot what is comfy. The day that you have to draw slow and hold it, is the day you will truly appreciate the benefits of a less agressive bow. That day was Oct 9, 2010 for me.

Z7 is where it is at! I have had it almost a year now and have zero complaints. I thought about going to the Z7 extreme, but then figured I am very happy where I am at now, so why switch? I pull #70 and one the guys I know pulls #62.5 and this year we each got 3 complete pass throughs with large cutting diameter broadheads. Don't be scared to going under 300 fps. I am even considering dropping to #65 for even more comfort. This is just one guys opinion, but I am very happy and pleased with my Z7. No intentions to switch any time soon. Hope this helps a little.

Two different animals there. The Monsters are designed to be speed bows. They're aggressive draw cycle, extreme reflex riser and limb preload all does one thing. Produce a lot of speed. But with that, there is a trade off. It's not the easiest bow in the world to pull and hold.

The Z7, I have shot numerous times and have to say its a very nice bow. I'm a Bowtech guy, but if someone asked me about a new Matthews, that would be my pick.

What Z7 are you getting? The new line of Z7's is where its at. I havent had a chance to physically look at any of the 2011 line. The tactical versions seem like a good concept. Im thinking of converting my M7 to a tac bow, Id like to use my bow for coon hunting alone so a rail system is what I need. The Monster on the main page of http://bowtac.com is what Im think im going modeling after.

I would love to have a z7x, mainly just because of the short ATA. It is very nice for creeping through the woods.
